From Little Girl Dreams to Event Planner
From the time I was a little girl, I always dreamed of being a “Bride.” Every time I would see flowers or a pretty dress I would tell my dad, “Someday I’m going to be a bride.” Weddings became a fascination with me around the age of 5. I loved looking through catalogs at wedding dresses and would circle the ones I wanted to someday buy. As I got older I would start to “coordinate” what the girls would wear, what the guys would wear and what my flowers would look like. Needless to say, it took off from there. By the age of 13 I was planning and executing church events, as I grew older it developed into organizing weddings for family and friends and church members. In the early 1990’s I started “Creative Event Consultants” in Rochester, New York. At that time, the concept of a wedding planner was very new and Brides to be loved having someone help them plan their weddings. At that time I carried alot of decor for weddings too that Brides could “rent” from me for their special day. While balancing motherhood and church activities, I put all my time and energy into making a Bride’s day as close to their Cinderella dream as possible. Throughout the years I’ve planned weddings in venues from American Legion Halls to party houses to upscale hotels.
After taking a hiatus for a few years to care for my terminally ill late husband who passed in 2014, I re-started my wedding planning business in 2017 under the name of “Burlap & Lace Events” but found it to be restricting me because many thought I only dealt with “Rustic” style event. Just recently the name has been changed to “Events by Cherylann” which encompasses all that we do - weddings of every size, style & budget, as well as planning dinner parties, anniversary and retirement parties, bridal & baby showers, religious retreats and events and corporate events and parties. Details are something I thrive on and watching an event, dinner party, party or other activities come together and be a success brings me to life.
That little girl who dreamed of being a bride is now helping other Brides as they start their new chapter with their own Prince Charming. I guess you could say I’m kind of a Fairy God mother and I LOVE IT!
