We've got 7 weddings coming up this autumn, and we are gearing up for the golden hour of the wedding season. Summer weddings are special, and autumn weddings are special, and we find ourselves smack in the middle!

Today, just sharing a happy memory of special people with gorgeous Wisconsin autumn in the background, and feeling gratitude that we get to create magic for couples in love as our day job. What a dream!!

Did you catch this blog from last month? We LOVED planning and executing Kim and Jesse's Camp Jorn YMCA wedding in the beautiful Wisconsin Northwoods. No rain could take us down when there's so much love and kindness in the house!!

This wedding had so many favorite things, but for me, especially the sneaky visit where the bride and groom got to let their brand new marriage sink in while floating together in a canoe. This is the kind of stuff rom-coms are made of!

But, here's a quick tip about umbrellas. If you want a cohesive, beautiful wedding umbrella plan, we would encourage you to purchase or rent umbrellas that match your color scheme, like clear or white, so that the umbrellas enhance the design rather than taking away from it. We’d also recommend to avoid black umbrellas for the guests or bride & groom since it makes the wedding feel a bit more like a funeral!

So, Wisconsin is an absolutely dreamy place to have an outdoor summer wedding, right? The weather is gorgeous, the outdoor venues are plentiful and so, so beautiful. But what about RAIN?

It's the most un-sexy thing to think about when it comes to wedding planning, but speaking as experienced planners over here, we can attest that outdoor weddings live or die by planning, and by planning a plan B.

Emily & Radek's wedding in this Saturday! HOORAY! We've been looking forward to this one for a while. It is going to be classic, elegant, and we can't stinkin' wait.

These two cuties are both studying medicine and live in Baltimore, Maryland, and they are planning a destination Wisconsin wedding at Green Lake's Heidel House Hotel. Radek is originally from the Czech Republic and Emily is from Wisconsin, and they chose such a luxe venue to bring all their family and friends together to celebrate!

⭐How long have you worked for Distinctly Yours?
"February 2024, although I've been in the wedding industry for about 4 years, and planning events on the side for around 8 years. But after moving to this area I was excited to be a part of this team that has helped make so many couples' dreams come to life."

⭐What is a typical day in the life when you're on the job for us?
"My day starts off by making sure that all the important details (big and small) are in the right places, as well as making sure that things are all lined up with vendors. Throughout the day, I continue to organize and situate spaces so that clean up and take down can go smoothly. Then doing a final check in with the newly wedded couple, and wishing them the best in future endeavors!"

⭐Best midday snacks or pick me ups?
"I am a sucker for good cheese along with beef sticks, fruits, and veggies. Basically if I can have a snack size charcuterie board wherever I go, I would be a happy camper!"

⭐What are the best parts of your job?
"I enjoy taking care of all the details that you may not always think of, or you don't know who did it behind the scenes. I also love seeing what started off as many ideas when they first started planning, then to be able to see their special day come to life!"

⭐What are you most likely doing when you're off the job?
"I do keep myself busy! I am married to my wonderful husband of almost 4 years, with our two spoiled rotten Australian Shepherds. We just bought a house this year in Wisconsin Rapids after two years of traveling for work throughout the USA, so we have been enjoying fixing up our house and making it our home. I'm an Auntie to 6 soon to be 7 kiddos, and they are my life. I enjoy hosting and spoiling family and friends with game nights and making new recipes. Or my favorite of making grazing tables or cheese boards!"

To make your dance ideal for families, we recommend to begin the dance at a reasonable time so that kids and families can have a chance to dance before everybody falls asleep. I (Jana) have felt bummed before when I’ve had to leave weddings before the dance has even started just to put my kids to bed!

We also love it when brides and grooms opt for the radio versions of songs rather than letting the hardcore expletives ring out loud and clear – this makes for a more family-friendly dance, and probably happier parents! Or, if there are some inappropriate songs that you want to make sure are part of the dance, consider saving them for later in the night when most of the kids have gone home.

"I started working for Distinctly Yours as a Wedding Assistant in September of 2024!"

⭐What is a typical day in the life when you're on the job for us?
"My typical day starts off on site to where the wedding is being located for the day. Making sure everyone and everything is set in place so that the day runs as smoothly as possible. Making sure the check list is being done and taking notes on how the day is going. After a long and delightful day we pack everything up, say our goodbyes, and wish the best of luck to the new married couple!"

⭐Best midday snacks or pick me ups?
"Best mid day snack would consist of a fruit bowl. Don't let that fool you because I also have the biggest sweet tooth!"

⭐What are the best parts of your job?
"Some of the best parts of my job are working with all the different vendors to come together and make the day memorable. I love showing my creative side and getting to see the variety of ideas, styles, and traditions."

⭐What are you most likely doing when you're off the job?
"I have two other jobs so I keep pretty busy but when I do have free time I like spending it with my boyfriend, riding horses, and going out to eat!"

Coloring sheets are such a cost-effective and helpful addition to your wedding day – especially for the ceremony! The ceremony is the point of the day when the kids have to be on their best behavior, so having a quiet activity ready and available when everyone walks in would be super helpful to families.

Make sure not to put the crayons or coloring supplies in crinkly wrappers! Imagine saying your vows over the annoying sound of kids noisily messing around with the plastic baggies. No one needs that. Instead, use twine or ribbon to tie them together, or find another quiet way to pass out supplies.

Coloring is also a great idea at the reception. Below, James and Susanna created a little coloring booklet available at the reception, and tons of kids (and adults!) loved having it available while they waited for dinner to be served.

⭐What is a typical day in the life when you're on the job for us?
"A typical day on the job starts with a Starbucks strawberry refresher on the way to the venue for a treat. Then a team huddle to get all the information we will need to make the day successful. We will then check in with the couple, family, and staff to make sure their needs have been met. Decorate the ceremony site and reception spaces. Manage timeline efficiently for the entire day and continue to refresh the reception space throughout the night. Have a little dance party with the team to the awesome music during the dance, lol. Stay until the end of reception to pack up decor from the day to make the next day of pickup for the couple as simple as possible."

⭐How long have you worked for Distinctly Yours?
"4 years"

⭐Best mid-day snacks or pick-me-ups?
"My go to midday pick-me-up is a refill of fresh ice water in my Stanley water bottle and a sweet treat like a cookie for a snack!"

⭐What are the best parts of your job?
"The best part of my job is getting to work with such fun and creative people. I enjoy that I get to be a part of a day full of love and that I could have a role in making it the best day for the couple to enjoy!"

⭐What are you most likely doing when you're off the job?
"Doing fun summer activities with the family I nanny for, watching a movie, or eating ice cream!"

"Every day looks different for me. Some days I am emailing businesses, communicating with them about dates and times of tours, or what they will be serving to guests. Other days I am researching history of Stevens Point or meeting with business owners and community members to learn about how we can collaborate." (New project starting up for us - stay tuned!)

"I love a mid-day coffee - especially iced caramel lattes."

With a heavy heart, we say goodbye to George Roman, the beloved owner of Fun Factory Sweet Shoppe. George was an amazing man whose infectious joy made every moment working together a true delight. His kindness and passion touched so many lives in our community and in my life as well. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and the entire Rhinelander community. Rest in peace, George. You will be deeply missed!

"My job as a social media manager & virtual assistant & blog writer happens while my two young kids have their rest time, so my typical day in the life is lots of fun with two cool little guys, followed by some time on the porch or couch and my laptop midafternoon. It's a great job for this season of my life!"

⭐Best midday snacks or pick-me-ups?
"Iced black coffee, a plate full of fruit and cheese, cheddar whales, and sea salt caramel dark chocolates."

⭐What are the best parts of your job?
"Two answers to this - interacting with Marsha, who is a terrific and encouraging boss. Also: having an outlet for creativity and logistics!"

⭐What are you most likely doing when you're off the job?
"Thinking about food, eating food, talking about food, reading about food, or meal planning. Or hiking? But mostly eating."

In response to the question of whether or not you should invite kids to your wedding, we really don’t have a suggested answer for you! There is no right or wrong answer. There are benefits to having an adults-only wedding, and there are benefits to opening the celebration up to kids too – this decision can only be made by you. It’s your wedding!

You should feel all the freedom in the world to make the right choice for you. Just because we’re writing a blog about it, doesn’t mean we think everyone should invite kids! But – if you do decide to invite kids, we have some suggestions on how to make those invitations clear, and how to make your wedding kid-friendly and a blast for families.

Here are our recommendations on how to make it clear if you are inviting kids to your wedding or not:

As a parent (Jana, speaking!) who has been to many weddings, it’s always a little awkward when the invitations and envelopes don’t specify who is invited to the wedding – it forces me to reach out to the bride and groom to ask if my kids are invited to the wedding. When the invitation wording is clear, I know right off the bat whether or not I need to seek childcare in order to RSVP “yes” to the wedding.

If you’ve decided not to invite kids to your wedding, we would encourage you to spell out who is invited on the invitation envelopes. By listing the names of the family members who ARE invited, it is clear to guests who is included in the invitation. You may also include on your wedding website specifics on which people are invited, rather than simply saying “family” on the envelope.

Today event was so touching! As a tribute to Paul John's Celebration of Life. They did a "Missing Man" formation in the air. It was so moving! I was truely honored to be a witness in today's events.

I am coordinating a different kind of event for us today...but just as important! This is a "Celebration of Life" for John Paul at the Iola Central Airport. He passed at the age of 104 years old. He lived a full life with many that loved him. He was a pilot for most of his life. An avaition theme is perfect for his life passion. Lol as I am coordinating a different guest transportation today. However, I will NOT be adding air traffic controller to my list of experience. I will be posting a video of a flying formation they will be doing a bit later during the event. So excited!!!

Look what I had all to myself this morning!!! So beautiful, peaceful & soul filling. I love this little place in the northwoods. A place for us to rest & recharge. Today is back to reality but this past week has given me all I need to fully jump back in with joy & anticipation of what God has next.
