🎶 Sunday afternoon’s TEF Family Series concert by Quarteto Nuevo drew an enthusiastic and responsive audience, under the moss-draped oaks at the Thomasville Center for the Arts. With their unique world music blend of Eastern European folk, classical, jazz and Latin music, Quarteto Nuevo entertained and enlightened a multi-generational crowd. We are thankful to the generous donors - the Parker Poe Charitable Trust, Emily & Bill Searcy Charitable Trust, Dr. & Mrs. Douglas C. McPherson, the late Diane Williams Parker and other friends of TEF - whose annual support honoring Janice Faircloth keeps the TEF Family Series free and open to the public!

SEASON TICKET 🎟️ HOLDERS - Please note that our pre-concert event exclusively for season ticket holders on October 15 is our traditional buffet 🍽️ , not our more recent Drinks and Bites reception. While the hurricane caused some graphic design, printing and postal service delays, postcard invitations are in the mail 📬 for this event. We know that some of our patrons prefer this sit down meal, and we are working with the Thomasville Center For The Arts to make them possible for some of our concerts. Space is limited. On Tuesday evening, supremely talented Broadway showstopper Brian Stokes Mitchell and his fabulous accompanist, Joseph Thalken, put on a dynamic, engaging, entertaining concert! He projected positive energy, and our audience responded in kind. Just as importantly, on Tuesday afternoon, local theatre students from Brookwood School, Thomasville, Ga., Thomas County Central High School and Thomasville City Schools Drama Program had an intimate and enriching discussion with Stokes. He gave them some sage advice, not just about things like auditioning, training and preparing for a life in the theatre, but some valuable life lessons that are gained from arts education and theatre participation that can be used by future teachers, salesmen, attorneys or whatever career paths they choose. TEF recognizes the importance of exposing students to our acclaimed performing artists. Generous donations to our Education Fund make our workshops, master classes and student matinees free for participating students and schools, and - along with a grant from the Thomasville Antiques Show Foundation, Inc. - students receive free Tickets for Teens 🎟️ for our concert series events.

Why does TEF emphasize educational outreach, enrichment and access to the arts for local students? Because cultivating the future of the performing arts is a key part of our mission! The son of two musicians raised in “a house without money,” singer Billy Joel explained on the Today Show this morning, “We were exposed to Broadway shows, we were exposed to classical musical… I listened to pop music on the radio, we went to concerts… I mean, I liked it all. I liked all music.“ Armed with influences ranging from Chopin to Ray Charles, Joel set out for a life in music. Caught cutting class to attempt to play Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto from memory by ear, he agreed to enroll in a music history class in lieu of being turned in for truancy. The rest is history! Obviously, most kids who grow up exposed to a wide range of music and an appreciation for the arts don’t go on to record twelve albums, sell 160 million records and win six Grammy Awards, but it does usually lead to a richer, more well rounded life!
