A hot topic amongst us DJ’s is about that opening DJ set… in my opinion the opening set is one of the most important and the hardest parts of the night! 🥲😅I personally construct my opening sets to grab the attention of the audience so I can keep as many people there for as long as I can 🙈 I use records that are NOT for the headlining set (for example I DO NOT PLAY current records, really big reaction records, or heavy hitting classics) Trying to go too hard too early is a rookie mistake 😵💫 (my market is 10pm-2am so opening set is generally 10pm-12am)DJ sets are about pacing the night and knowing what to play and WHEN 🙏🏼 Remember, as a DJ we control the night. That doesn’t mean we should hear you more than we hear music… Timing is everything with the mic! Talk too much and you can become annoying! You need to find balance between hyping up, announcing, and connecting with the audience.Find the right lines to say and make the emcee part your sets your own just like you make the music style your own. Haha 🔥 I be in my bag when I get on that DJ set 😭 some turntablist can’t rock parties but can put on a scratch show like no other.. and some DJ’s can rock parties but can’t scratch 😭I wouldn’t say that I am an expert turntablist by any means! But I appreciate DJ’s that can put on an amazing performance by use of turntables bc it is NOT EASY! Even basic scratching can be a challenge. I use this video to show that I can rock parties and also incorporate basic turntable skills!
