People often ask us why we call our farm ‘Winter’s Rush’. Yes, it’s a combination of family names on the Walsh side … but… it’s dually because of Maine’s late August days like this one. Low nighttime temps that 3 months ago would have been the harbinger of warmer weather to come, now call attention to the fact that winter is in fact not far away. There’s a heavy dew on the south lawn in the early mornings now, while our neighbor’s maple, situated in just the right spot to do an early turn of color, redresses its green leaves into bright warm tones. Nearby tall oaks, with their shiny green leaves, continue to deny the possibility of fall being on its way. Meanwhile our fields are still happily producing beautiful blooms, chasing the warm days of summer right to the end. Heading off to markets (Wiscasset Farmers Market Rockport Farmer's Market) this weekend is bittersweet for knowing our flower season will soon be coming to an end. Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend everyone!
