I was once told by an art teacher that I had “an obvious sympathy for vegetation.”
My passion for floral design began over twenty years ago in a greenhouse in a small Michigan town, traveled through the mountains of Colorado and Arizona, to the beaches of Southern California, settling in Washington, DC. An education in graphic design has helped to sharpen my attention to detail and given me an ey
e for color and composition. I find inspiration from all growing things, in the beauty and texture of flowers, fruits, herbs and foliage. I’m fascinated with color, how a purple can be so light it’s almost silver or so dark it’s nearly black. I delight in combining the unexpected, foraging for the new and unusual, finding grasses, branches or berries on a walk with my daughter and dreaming of ways I can use them in my next design. I enjoy spending personal time with each of my clients, getting to know them and their vision (or helping them create that vision) and bringing it to life with flowers. Jolie Joswick
