I rarely do cupcakes, usually in conjunction with a cake order. These were made to go with the baby shower cake I just posted. Funny how many photos I took and they have been just sitting there, for two years! Forced to come out of hiding since I have reached my cloud storage capacity. 2tb that I share with the guys, okay, it is 90% my fault with my 10k photos. It was time to purge. I am done for a bit, have to do some real work for this weekend now.

A clay topper or in this case maybe a baser (lol) for an unconventional space cake. Another cake from '22 that got filed and never posted. The dress is the one the young birthday girl wore for her space themed birthday party.

The wonderful thing about being busy is that you are busy. The bad thing is that a lot of cakes get made that never see the light of day because you are too busy to do more than take a few pics before running out the door. Here is one of those cakes. A shared birthday by a husband and wife if I remember right.

For all of you who are “rolling in the dough” don’t forget to keep a savings account for future emergencies. Equipment failures happen but so do illnesses and injuries. My business has survived two emergency years, the pandemic year and this last year with an injury.

Emergency funds keep the lights on, minimal bills paid, and even for hired help if needed. I am so fortunate to be able to keep the business going while waiting for my recovery.

Dont forget about the emotional toll that happens when you have to temporarily close. This was a record low for me and I must admit it has been harder emotionally than anything else. It feels like falling off a great ship in the middle of the ocean. Left behind, slowly swimming to a distant shore that isnt always visable. All the while questioning my ability, physically and business wise, to return to safe harbor and my former glory. During the pandemic I did not feel alone as we all were experiencing the blow together. This go around has been a big blow to my business, my ego, my spirit, and my passion. Every day I challenge myself to keep swimming, keep looking at the horizon, and keep believing that what seems like an eternity will be over soon. I can’t wait to get back to it!

My last cake I made was the Cinderella cake in August. One of my favorites ever. It is what keeps me moving forward because, I’m not done yet. To hell with my injury, I won’t stop trying!

Practicing my henna! Haven’t had time to do it in a few years. It was a great way to destress so it makes sense that I decided to do this tonight. I might end up tonight with a full sleeve!!!!!😂😂😂. ( used a practice sheet from I believe Gopi Henna). If you ever need henna products her products are among the best!

Sad to see this icon is closing.

Laura taught me one of my first basic cake decorating classes when I was trying to learn how to make my daughter’s birthday cakes. I think that was 2005.

I was such a perfectionist trying to get the buttercream absolutely smooth with straight edges (before it was a thing😂). She kept teasing me about it. Loved her and the class.

It was a year or so later that I turned the hobby into a business when I started “Stumptown Cakes.”

The original minds behind the bakery, Jack and Iva Elmer, first opened their shop back in 1986.

Some piping details after I wake up then it’s done. The piped border was so wobbly I thought it best to do the rest after I sleep. 😂

Note that the mr&mrs topper will be lifted into place once I deliver.

I finalized some serious business decisions today and decided to celebrate. Eating at Momiji Sushi restaurant in West Linn.

I have been wanting to try them but it always looked empty so I wasn’t sure how good it would be. Now I know why. It was empty. It’s funny that I am the only person eating in. They have been super busy with non-stop pickup orders.

I ordered:

-Gyoza- crispy fried Japanese dumpling. Meant to order them steamed but they were good! One of my must order items.

-Spinal Tap Tempura Roll- if you know you will get the irony. Salmon, surimi, , mayo, sriracha, avocado, tobiko, spicy mayo, eel sauce, sesame seeds, green onion, chili sauce. Really yummy. Next time I’m ordering it without the tempura. The ingredients were really tasty.

-Spicy Yellowtail Classic Roll- light and delicious, what I love about sushi. Yellowtail, green onion, sriracha, avacado, sesame seeds.

I want more but I am happily stuffed. Glad I was so busy working that I missed lunch today. No way I could have eaten it all otherwise. 🍱

As for the business decisions made you will have to wait a little bit for me to reveal it. 🤣
