ANTON VERHOOGT

“A little bit about me, Anton Verhoogt. I am the Chef & Owner of the Fisherman’s Cottage Restaurant in Hermanus for the past 10 years.
Once I received my diploma at ICA (Institute of Culinary Arts), I got the opportunity to travel the world and develop my style and flavour profile.
I then lived and worked in the Netherlands for seven years at a Michelin star restaurant where I gained an exceptional amount of experience.

I then returned to South Africa and have worked at several top restaurants, namely Rust en Vrede, Overture and The Round House.
My passion is tasting and cooking with local ingredients and creating interesting and delicious meals.”

JOHAN LAMPRECHT

Chef Johan is a seasoned culinary professional with over 20 years of experience in the industry. He discovered his passion for cooking at a young age, cooking at home inspired by his grandmother's love of food and hosting the family. After completing formal culinary apprenticeship, Johan honed his skills in top-rated restaurants and managed kitchens in various 5 star hotels and lodges.

Johan’s cooking is not just about creating delicious food but also about fostering connections and creating memorable experiences. He believes in the power of food to bring people together, evoke emotions, and tell stories. With every dish he creates, Chef Johan strives to ignite the senses and leave a lasting impression on diners.

Johan currently has his own artisanal bakery, Brood, in Onrus, with his partner Chef Susan, specializing in sourdough bread as well as bespoke catering and as a private chef in the Overberg region.

KEVIN WARWICK

Kevin is the owner and Principal of Warwick's Chef School in Hermanus, one of the longest running chef training academies in South Africa, which was founded in 1991.

Kevin’s long career in the hospitality industry includes several highlights such as the head chef position at the fine-dining Van Donck Restaurant at the 5-star Heerengracht Hotel in Cape Town, owning The Onrust Kitchen Restaurant, holding the catering contract at Kidbrooke place for many years, owning the Restaurant at Sumaridge and The Class Room Function Venue.

Kevin has been inducted into the Academy of Chefs, an honoury society of the South African Chefs’ Association, recognising his contribution to culinary training in South Africa.

Kevin’s focus has always been on equipping young chefs with a sound knowledge of the culinary principles, and making sure they perfect their practical skills to work successfully with competence and confidence in the kitchens of the world.

Kevin believes that chefs should never stop learning and that cheffing is a passion – a living art form that can draw inspiration through all the senses.

AMBER AMBROS

Amber has always had a love for cooking and baking, growing up in a family who loved food, which inspired her to become a chef. She graduated from Warwick’s Chef School, worked with chef Kevin Warwick for one year and then joined The Marine Hotel for 4 years working her way up to a Senior CDP.

Having a love for travel and wanting to spread her wings, Amber worked overseas for 7 months and then returned to South Africa.

“I am working at Creation Wines doing what I love and working with the best team and phenomenal leaders,” said Amber “I couldn't be happier.”

“I’ve had the privilege of serving as the Executive Chef at Creation Wines for the past 2 and a half years. During this time, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Carolyn Martin in developing our exceptional kitchen team. Together, we have dedicated ourselves to exploring the intricate art of wine and food pairing, delving into the fascinating interplay between the elements found in our dishes and the exquisite wines we offer.

Driven by my deep love and passion for both food and people, we have strived to create a dining experience that goes beyond mere sustenance. Our goal is to engage all our clients' senses, elevating their culinary journey to an educational and enlightening level.

Meet our Chefs

Chef CHARLENE HENDRIKSE

Charlene has had an interesting career and considers herself as an all-rounder. Her love for the hospitality industry started at 16 and she is a self-taught chef who has been fortunate enough to have had many great mentors guiding her the past 24 years.

Her extensive travels opened her eyes to different cuisines and cultures. She moved to Hermanus in 2013 and in 2017 started her own catering business – offering a range of ready-made meals, private cheffing and catering for events, also supplying a few coffee shops with delicious goods.
Charlene loves meeting new people and cooking for them. Her style of cooking is simple food prepared well and she prefers to keep things relaxed and fun.

Wow, Wow, Wow!!! I loved working on the Clash of the Chefs this year! I had an amazing group of chefs who prepared a delicious lunch for nearly 200 guests, and then took part in a fun and interactive Cook-Off. Thank you to our generous and fun guests; incredible sponsors who donated all the food for the lunch, pantries for the cook-off as well as amazing Auction Items. Our MC, Gabriella Sangiorgio, once again kept us all informed and our Auctioneer, Brett Garner, ensured he got excellent bids to raise money for Safe Hands Animal Rescue. Last but definitely not least, we loved our judges!!!
