Our Story
Their story started as two aspiring fashion designers, who met at Villioti Fashion Institute where they soon became best friends.
Izak Uys had a love for the arts and beauty, however he wanted to express his talent in the field of fashion passionately ignited through Haute Couture. He strives on finding whimsical beauty in the most unlikely of places. When Izak designs he has this clear image of a women, she is elegant, sophisticated, she demands respect and she’s secure within herself. Describing his process Izak said that” Inspiration is driven by things that pushes the notion of ugly and elegant I aim to create clothing that a woman cannot be defined in.”
Claudine van Goeverden found herself the first day she walked into the fashion industry. Since a young age she would sew up wedding dresses for her dogs and marry them underneath the flower arches in the garden. “Giving out clear programs to her parents of the ceremony procedures. “Being a very creative person, with an eye for new trends. Claudine draws from the past and re-invents fashion era’s bringing it to life in a new current way with the intricacy of a couture finish. Pattern making became her first love and has an affair with fabrics. When asked if why she studied fashion? Her response was “Fabrics speaks to me and I thought it was about time to start listening”. Growing up she said that all the world is a stage (William Shakespeare) and that she will perform on it, enticed by the dramatics in fashion. Claudine embraces challenges and gets inspired with the controversial, she often purposefully draws inspiration from and uses concepts and fabrics that she hates for the challenge it creates.
Fashion became their life style, their language. Stages turned into Runways their platform to express themselves. Not realizing that a friendship was growing into a love story. In 2014 yarns of these two best friends intertwined, weaving their creative work into the tapestry which is House of Uys.
