We can’t believe it but we are turning 14 today! That’s right, we are well into our teens now.

We absolutely love what we do and love who we get to work with ❤️.

None of this would be possible without the amazing village we get to work with and support.

To everyone in the Fetching family, a big THANK YOU!

I BLOG I When you think of events that evoke and conjure up a magical atmosphere it’s hard to go past German Christmas markets.

They have a unique ability to transport visitors into a fairytale-like atmosphere, evoking a sense of wonder and joy as well as childhood nostalgia, returning adults to a time when Christmas was all about the magic.

But what is the secret to their enduring and engaging success?

Our Chief Engagement Officer packed her beanie and gloves and travelled to Munich last Christmas to see first hand what it is that makes these markets world famous and attract visitors from across the globe.

Find out what she discovered in our latest blog. http://www.fetchingevents.com.au/our-blogs/the-secrets-behind-the-magic-of-the-german-christmas-markets

I SENSORY EVENT DESIGN I Do you know that textures, surfaces and weights of objects can impact how we view or perceive things?

A range of studies and experiments undertaken by psychologists at Harvard University, MIT and Yale University, found that physical touch — the first of our senses to develop — “may continue to operate throughout life like a scaffold upon which people build their social judgments and decisions.”

Here is a snapshot of three experiments they undertook……

⚖️ Weight: Testing the effects of weight, metaphorically associated with seriousness and importance, they had participants use
either light or heavy clipboards while evaluating resumes. They found that participants judged candidates whose resumes were seen on a heavy clipboard as better qualified and more serious about the position, and rated their own accuracy at the task as more important.
🧩 Texture: In order to test texture’s effects, participants were required to arrange rough or smooth puzzle pieces before hearing a story about a social interaction. Those participants
who worked with the rough puzzle pieces were likelier to describe the interaction in the story as uncoordinated and harsh.
🪵 Surfaces: For this piece of research, participants handled either a soft blanket or a hard wooden block before being told an ambiguous story about a workplace interaction between a supervisor and an employee. Participants who touched the block judged
the employee as more rigid and strict.

Textures, surfaces and weights all have an impact in how people experience different environments and situations.

How are you using these elements to enhance your event experience?

I ABOUT LAST NIGHT I

Some of the Fetching team had the absolute joy of experiencing one of the Raclette igloos last night at Fed Square.

Delicious food, snug igloos, crackling fire pits, heart warming mulled wine, roasting marshmallows and delightful French music.

What more could you want?!

This is an activation that really understands every part of sensory event design. The smell, the taste, the sounds, the touch, the views. It had all the winter feels! ❄️

Thank you for having us!

Stay tuned for our blog out next week that looks at sensory event design and how the German Christmas markets create magic by tapping into our senses.

I WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT US I

Last year we worked on a truly special event, .

The Bloody Good Dinner is a joint collaboration between and that, to date, has raised nearly $3 million for blood cancer and bone marrow failure research.

While COVID interrupted planning several times, the (sold out) event finally ran in November last year at the Royal Botanic Gardens.

And what an event it was, with NOMADs Jacqui Challinor designing the menu!

This was a very special one and we were so thrilled to work with the Bloody Good Dinner Committee to help deliver an experience that influenced and inspired.

“Georgie Stayches (and Fetching Events), is a pure event management master!

Nothing is too much trouble, nothing can't be done, nothing without a smile and a reassuring look.

Georgie assisted in the planning and ex*****on of the 2022 Bloody Good Dinner. Her expertise, her extroadinary organisation, her wide knowledge of the events industry, and more importantly, her gorgeous and calm nature ensured the 2022 Bloody Good Dinner was the most successful in its history. We can't thank Georgie enough and can't wait to work with her again.”

I SENSORY EVENT DESIGN I Do you know that sound and music can impact our behaviours? Want to know how music can impact the wine you buy?

According to research, our emotions become attached to sound through experience, and emotions triggered by experience provoke certain thoughts and behaviours.

In fact, we are constantly interpreting sound based on our past experiences and determining how to respond.

Familiar sounds provoke predictable emotional responses, but sometimes a sound is so compelling that our response is no longer simply emotional, it becomes a belief.

We know that music and sound can impact our moods, reduce or increase our stress levels but what about our behaviours and decision making?

Research has shown that music can
subconsciously affect our moods and influence our purchasing behaviours.

Here are a couple of examples…

💰 It has been found that classical music can make people buy more expensive wine, or spend more in restaurants

🍷 It has been found that music can also impact what we buy. A study was conducted in a wine store to study how music changed purchasing behaviours. The experiment found that on the days where French music was played, 77% of wine sold was French. On the days where German music was played, 73% wine sold was German.

“When asked specifically if they thought that the music affected their choice 86% (of customers) said that it didn’t. The behavioural influence of the music was massive, but the customers didn’t notice or believe that it was affecting them.”

How are you using music and sound to enhance experiences at your events?

I THE FETCHING FAMILY I

Working with organisations we believe in and that make a real difference in the community is why we do what we do.

We continue to be humbled by the many community and charity organisations we call our friends and that have become part of the Fetching family, and the important community and fundraising events and campaigns we can help them bring to life.

One of those organisations is and we are honoured to announce we are event managing the Melbourne on the 22 June.

To play a part in this event is a true honour.

As Vinnies say, “Everyone deserves a safe place to call home. For over a decade, supporters of the Vinnies CEO Sleepout have provided essential support to tens of thousands of Australians. This year, you can make a difference.”

The Vinnies CEO Sleepout is a one-night event held on one of the longest and coldest nights of the year.

Hundreds of CEOs, business owners as well as community and government leaders across Australia will be sleeping outdoors to support the many Australians who are experiencing homelessness and people at risk of homelessness

Thank you to the Vinnies team we have been working with, Andrea Reginato, Stacey James, Jen Vuk, Claudia Loeber-Raab and Liz Randle, for the opportunity to bring our event expertise and help plan and deliver this event.

And in a wonderful serendipity moment, one of our clients , CEO, , has completed over 10 CEO Sleepouts and will once again be sleeping out to raise vital funds. Deb notes, “This is a personal commitment I make each year ..... women in my age group are the most rapidly increasing number of people impacted by living arrangement disruption ....”.

What a community we get to work with!

I WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT US I

Graduating after years of study, sacrifices and hard work is a momentous occasion! An occasion that will be remembered forever.

We’re lucky enough to help bring these very special occasions to life and create life long memories through our event management of the Graduations.

Our Chief Engagement Officer, Georgie, has been event managing these graduations across the country since 2018 and can’t wait to again this year!

“Georgie is a fantastic event manager who goes above and beyond to make every event she manages a huge success. She has an incredible eye for detail and is a master at juggling multiple tasks, ensuring that everything runs smoothly from start to finish. Her creativity and ability to think outside the box mean that she is always coming up with innovative ideas that take events to the next level. Georgie's professionalism and dedication are second to none, and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an exceptional event manager.”

I THE FETCHING FAMILY |

We’re excited to announce we will once again be helping the Local Services Community Association (LCSA) to deliver their annual Connecting Communities Conference.

LCSA is the peak body of Neighbourhood and Community Centres in NSW and their Connecting Communities Conference is an annual event bringing together their members and partners from all over New South Wales.

This will be the third in person Connecting Communities Conference we have helped them bring to life, having also assisted in the delivery of the online International Federation of Settlements and Neighborhood Centers in 2021.

We can’t wait to bring this important event to life in late August and curate another exciting and important program for the community, social services and social justice sector.

Another week and another chance to create an experience that influenced and inspired.

Last night we welcomed over 500 secondary school educators and leaders to the for the Victorian Catholic Secondary Schools Deputy Principals Association Women in Leadership Dinner.

This is the fifth Women in Leadership Dinner we have delivered for the VCSSDPA and we are always blown away by the energy in the room. It is a room full of hearts, souls, wisdom and generosity of spirit.

In fact we always end the night buzzing and with big smiles on our faces!

A big thank you to for an incredible keynote. You could hear a pin drip!

I THIS TIME LAST WEEK I

It is hard to believe that it is already a week since !

What a joy to help bring this important fundraising night for to life and help put youth homelessness to bed.

For this one night, nearly 900 people registered to sleep at the iconic MCG and for this one night, the ‘G transformed into many rooms.

There was something for everyone!

From a Fireside Chat in the ‘Family Room’, to comedy and DJs in the ‘Lounge Room’, to giant games in the ‘Rumpus Room’, to mandala and meditation in the ‘Retreat’, to delicious soup in ‘The Kitchen’ and a late night sing song in the ‘Backyard’, backed up with sunrise yoga in the ‘Backyard’ in the morning.

The event has raised over half a million dollars to put youth homelessness to bed and that fundraising figure is still climbing.

On any given night, 7,628 young people aged 12-24 are experiencing homelessness in Victoria, according to the recently released 2021 Census data, which is an astounding 19.7% increase since 2016.

There is still time to donate and make a difference - visit https://www.sleepattheg.com.au

I THE CHANGE MAKERS |

During National Volunteer Week, we want to give a shout out to everyone who gives up their time to give back and make a change in the community.

Real change makers don’t just talk about making change, they just get it done.

Real Change makers don’t do it for the glory and reward, they make change to make the world a better place.

Real change makers probably don’t even know the huge positive social impact they are making.

Change makers are members of the community who volunteer their time, their expertise and their experience to make a difference.

Whether it is as a committee or board member, helping at the local school, being a service volunteer, working at the local sporting club, formalised and structured volunteering, doing the shopping for a neighbour, a working bee at the local community centre, advising an organisation with professional skills or everything and anything in between, we say thank you!

If you organisation has the support of volunteers, make sure you acknowledge them this week, and in fact every week of the year.

I WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT US I

We were thrilled to help bring the Conference to life last year after the previous two years of disruptions.

"Having met Georgie through previous professional networks, I was delighted when Fetching Events and Communications were the preferred provider to work with Jobs Australia. Over the last 2 1/2 years, circumstances out of everyone's control, only resulted in the planned event occurring in 2022. Georgie maintained contact and engagement with us with such a well-considered approach, until our event was confirmed. Her availability, consistence, thoughtfulness and extraordinary expertise has been a significant factor in our successful event. Her participation with staff, stakeholders and most importantly, with our membership, was respective and informative. I am happy to recommend her skill and expertise. Thank you for your contribution to our work at Jobs Australia."
Deb Cerasa
CEO, Jobs Australia

It was a delight to work with them again this year on their 2023 Conference and we can’t wait to work with them again in the future.

I DID YOU KNOW? I

In 2021, data showed that 38.6% of people living in Greater Sydney were born overseas.

In 2021, 30.0% of people living in Victoria were born overseas.

In 2021, 35.7% of people in Greater Melbourne were born overseas.

What assumptions or bias are you applying to your events volunteer engagement or communications that is unconsciously excluding this group?

From ensuring all voices are heard and welcomed, to removing cultural (including pop culture) bias, it is crucial to recognise that our audiences and community are changing - and we need to ensure not only that our processes and environments are inclusive, but to also have a platform to leverage new ideas, new lenses and new insights.

I WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT US I

We love helping our clients celebrate very special occasions and this was the case last year when we worked with Bank First to mark their 50th anniversary.

Not only was it a joy to work on these events but a bonus to receive these lovely words from them.

"We partnered with Fetching Events to deliver a program of events for the bank’s 50th Anniversary in 2022. This involved a series of events over a couple of months, including a number held on the same day. Each event involved a different audience and format, and with it, different event elements. We could not have delivered the program without Georgie and Mel. They brought their event expertise to support us and worked seamlessly with us. They were able to tailor their event support to our needs and budget. Each event was delivered successfully and the feedback from our Members, guests and staff was overwhelmingly positive. We loved working with Georgie and Mel and could not have delivered the program without them. Their passion for what they do, attention to detail and commitment to deliver shines through everything they do.”
