Father; Calvin Reeder and his son Brendon, were killed in their Donvale house as it went up in flames overnight.

At least 30 Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters arrived at 43 Craig Road, Donvale, to find the multi-level, brick and steel constructed home fully involved in fire.

FRV Firefighters aggressively attacked the fire. The home has been destroyed by fire and the roof has collapsed. The fire was deemed under control at 04:33am

Upon extinguishing the fire, two bodies were found inside the property.

Shocked friends and neighbours of the pair gathered outside their home throughout the day as emergency services investigated.

Neighbour and former deputy youth premier of Victoria Angelo von Moller described Mr Reeder as the “epitome of a good neighbour”.

FRV specialist Fire Investigators will be attending this morning to investigate the cause of the fire with Victoria Police.

FRV Firefighters will be remaining on scene to continue fire duties into the morning.

When our chief crime reporter and lead photographer attended, these images show what little is left of the home.

Melbourne Theatre Company’s "A Streetcar Named Desire" is one of the most celebrated plays of the 20th century, ahead of its premiere on the 13 July 2024 at Arts Centre Melbourne, our lead photographer Lord Murray Schoorman captured these breathtaking images at today's special performance.

Stepping into one of the greatest stage roles and characters, Blanche DuBois, is award-winning Nikki Shiels (The Picture of Dorian Gray, Sunday).

Tennessee Williams’s classic masterpiece A Streetcar Named Desire is set against the backdrop of 1940s New Orleans where Southern belle Blanche DuBois (Nikki Shiels) grapples with her shattered dreams and inner demons as she seeks refuge in the cramped apartment of her sister Stella (The Newsreader's Silver Logie nominee Michelle Lim Davidson), and her volatile brother-in-law Stanley Kowalski (The Dressmaker's Mark Leonard Winter).

The 1951 film starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh is still regarded as one of the greatest classics of our time, and Melburnians will now be able to relive this timeless classic on our mainstage stage.

Fire Rescue Victoria is attending a large factory fire at ACB Group at 118 Swann Drive, Derrimut, with hazardous material and unknown toxins burning.

Peak Hour Images immediately deployed their director of photography to the scene.

FRV has requested an evacuation along Swann Drive to Bliss Court, which Victoria Police is managing.

FRV has issued a ‘Watch and Act’ message for Albion, Braybrook, Brooklyn, Derrimut, Laverton North, Sunshine, Sunshine West, Tottenham, Truganina.

A large plume of smoke is blowing over the eastern and western suburbs of Melbourne.

Anyone located in the area affected by smoke should take shelter indoors immediately.

More than 180 firefighters are responding to the fire in Derrimut.

FRV's specialist hazmat and scientific advisors are on site, as well as the Environment Protection Authority who are monitoring atmospheric conditions.

The fire was been deemed Under Control at 3:30pm today.

Fire Rescue Victoria Deputy Commissioner North & West Michelle Cowling AFSM said crews would likely remain on site over coming days to fully extinguish the fire.

Major arterial roads are starting to reopen.

"Our crews have been working around the clock since 11:20am this morning and have brought this significant fire under control," Deputy Commissioner Cowling said.

“There have been no reports of any injuries to staff or to any of the emergency services on site."

“The cause of this fire will be fully investigated by WorkSafe, FRV, Victoria Police and other agencies."

"The factory contained a range of chemicals, including kerosene, fuel, methylated spirits and ethanol."

"We cannot leave any smouldering embers."

"It has been a huge fire and Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters have done an amazing job, relying on their training and professionalism to bring this fire under control in such as short amount of time."

Firewater has entered Cherry Creek, Anderson’s Swamp and Kayes Drain due to the industrial fire.

Avoid contact with the water (including pets) downstream of the fire location until further notice.

Odours may be observed in the area. Avoid areas where odours occur.

Structure Fire 7th Alarm - over 60 appliances on scene at the height of the blaze.

Control Unit 1A took over radio operations and RPAS was used after 4pm.

WorkSafe Victoria, the EPA and the local Council were also on scene.

FRV and the EPA advise that businesses in Swann Circuit and Bliss Court must remain closed tonight.

FRV does not want people exposed to the wastewater and toxic smoke, and they cannot return until it is safe to do so.

FRV will provide further advice to the community after 6AM tomorrow.

The massive blaze has also caused disruptions with Telstra customers.

A Telstra spokesperson confirmed the factory fire had damaged one of the mobile sites.

“There is overlapping coverage from our other sites in the area, but customers may notice slower data speeds and patchy coverage in places.

“We’re working closely with Emergency Services and will get in to assess the damage as soon as it is safe to do so.

“In the meantime, residents can improve their mobile coverage by using their nbn connection to access Wi-Fi calling. This is a free setting on most popular mobile phones and allows your mobile to use a Wi-Fi network to make and receive mobile calls.

25/06/2024

Police have found what appears to be drug paraphernalia at a home in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, where four people, including a teenager, were found dead this morning.

The bodies of two men aged 37 and 32, a woman believed to be 42 and Abdul El Syed (17y/o), were discovered about 2am on Tuesday 25 June 2024 inside a unit at 32 Bicknell Court in Broadmeadows.

The group was discovered by the uncle of Abdul El Syed, who peered through the window of the home after becoming concerned about a lack of movement from inside.

After smashing open a window to gain access to the home, Cory Lewis, who lives in a neighbouring unit, found the four dead bodies, one of which was his nephew who was laying on the floor. He then called police.

Upon hearing of the situation, the Peak Hour Images newsroom immediately deployed their chief crime reporter, Lord Murray Schoorman, who attended the scene and took these photos.

In a press conference at 09:30am today, Detective Inspector Dean Thomas said Victoria Police were unsure how the group died and they were looking at all possibilities, including but limited to, a drug overdose or carbon monoxide poisoning.

“We think that may be the case,” he said. “We’ve gotta keep an open mind about this. It’s unusual that we find four people deceased in the one property potentially from a drug overdose. “Until we can confirm that’s the case, it could be anything.”

DI Thomas said all four people, who were yet to be formally identified, were found in the loungeroom of the home.

He said it appeared as though the group had been sitting down, but that some were found dead on the floor.

Police found several items found inside the home that Thomas said “may be drug paraphernalia” however they needed to be examined.

There were some injuries on the bodies however Thomas would not confirm who was injured nor the nature of the injuries or if the injuries related to the deaths or were pre-existing. He went on to explain, “We don’t believe that there’s been any form of violence in the place,”.

One of the victims is believed to be a resident of the Broadmeadows home and the rest were visiting.

The relationships between the four people are not yet known to the media.

“We’re trying to piece together the connections and what in actual fact they were doing at the address,” Thomas said.

At least three of the four people were known to police, including the 17-year-old boy, Abdul El Sayed.

Thomas said the scene was “unpleasant” and that it would have been confronting for the boy’s uncle to make the discovery.

“For the person to have found them there, very, very confronting and very traumatic for that person and of course the families of the deceased … they’ll want answers as to what has occurred,” he said.

Uncle Cory spoke to media about finding the body of his nephew, who is understood to be a father to a daughter less than 12 months old. “I’ve come home to find him gone,” he said. “He was a kid, 17 years old.”

It could take anywhere from several days to months for post-mortem examinations to be conducted, Thomas said.

He appealed to anyone who may know anything about what happened to come forward and help VicPol with their enquires.

While Peak Hour Images were on scene specialist Police arrived from the CBR/DVI [Chemical, Biological, Radiological/Disaster Victim Identification] team, who donned full PPE/Hazmat suits prior to entering the residence.

It was recently reported by various news outlets, that local drug dealers were gravely concerned of the lethal drug fentanyl being used to cut other drugs, which would result in unexpected death of the users. It is not yet known if this specific drug contributed to the death of these 4 people.

“And now, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close-up…”

Musical theatre and international recording superstar Sarah Brightman leads a lavish new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical masterpiece.

Sunset Boulevard weaves a magnificent tale of faded glory and unfulfilled ambition. Having been discarded by Hollywood with the advent of “talkies”, legendary silent movie star Norma Desmond is tortured by her longing for a return to the big screen. When she meets struggling Hollywood screenwriter Joe Gillis in a dramatic chance encounter, their subsequent passionate and volatile relationship leads to an unforeseen and tragic conclusion.

Norma Desmond is one of musical theatre’s greatest roles and it requires a true legend to fill her shoes. Sarah Brightman is the iconic artist who originated the role of Christine in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera both in the West End and on Broadway. Since then, she has become the world’s best-selling soprano, topping the charts across the world.

This historic theatre event marks her first theatrical role in almost three decades.

Joining Sarah Brightman is Tim Draxl as Joe Gillis, Robert Grubb as Max Von Mayerling, Ashleigh Rubenach as Betty Schaefer, and Silvie Paladino in the role of Norma Desmond at certain performances.

This brand-new production features stunning sets and costumes, evoking the glamorous Golden Age of Hollywood. The thrillingly atmospheric score features the hits ‘With One Look’, ‘The Perfect Year’, and the anthemic ‘As If We Never Said Goodbye’.

Sunset Boulevard is the musical theatre event of the year so naturally they sent Lord Murray Schoorman along to capture these stunning images! Don’t miss this strictly limited season at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre from May 2024.

24/05/2024

After two sold-out seasons, Shimmery Burlesque will take centre stage at the historic Athenaeum Theatre in Melbourne, shining a spotlight on the sparkling world of Burlesque in a grand theatrical spectacle.

Opening on Friday 24 May 2024, Shimmery is a first of its kind! Shimmery Burlesque is a groundbreaking stage show that follows the life of Lady Shimmery, an Australian dressmaker who travels to Paris where she falls in love with costuming for Burlesque.

Shimmery embraces the classic allure of Burlesque, while taking an innovative approach that pushes the boundaries of this traditionally solo art form. Transitioning Burlesque into a grand-scale ensemble production, the show draws inspiration from the extravagance of vintage musicals from bygone eras, a style of entertainment seldom seen today.

In a dream-like sequence, we follow the passionate young dressmaker all the way from her sewing machine in Melbourne to the city of Paris. The story begins in Lady Shimmery’s studio, with her early memories of tailored suits, wedding dresses, and dreams of something more. Searching for inspiration, she adventures to Paris, where she discovers the art of Burlesque, igniting her passion for costume design. In breathtaking Shimmery costumes, a cast of twenty glisten with rhinestones, feathers and tassels - breaking out into big, beautiful Burlesque numbers that capture Lady Shimmery’s story and imagination, seamlessly weaving into the fabric of her narrative.

Through an array of performance styles, Shimmery Burlesque blends elements of glamour, cheekiness, drama, playfulness, and hilarity, creating a heartfelt and unforgettable theatrical experience. From the elegance of feather fans and the sensuality of chair dancing, to the breathtaking aerial acts and high-energy chorus dancers, this is a show that promises to impress—truly an experience not to be missed!

Written and directed by Melbourne's very own Holly Mouat, Shimmery Burlesque draws inspiration from her mother Kerrie Schultz (the real Lady Shimmery), who serves as the head costume designer for the production. Cabaret singer Abbey Paige Williams stars as Lady Shimmery, alongside a grand Australian Burlesque ensemble. Shimmery Burlesque is choreographed by Maple Rose and Kimera Diamond, with lighting design by award winning Jason Bovaird. With over 450+ lighting sequences, this show is set to dazzle even the most gayest of gay boys!

BASED ON A TRUE STORY
Holly's mother Kerrie (the real Lady Shimmery) began her early artistic journey in graphic design before venturing into fashion and bridal couture. A trip to Paris in 2010, courtesy of her award-winning paintings, marked a turning point. Here, alongside her daughter Holly, they were captivated by the opulence of French Cabaret, igniting Holly's passion for Burlesque. Holly began performing Burlesque in 2016, with Kerrie making all of her costumes. From these sparks, Shimmery Couture was born. The name "Shimmery" pays homage to Kerrie's Aunt Margaret Imrie, a big supporter of her work. Shimmery Couture has since created costumes for international touring productions and some of the worlds best in Burlesque.

Holly spent five years developing the concept of the Shimmery Burlesque stage show, and in October 2022 it made its debut at the Gasworks Theatre, captivating sold-out audiences and earning standing ovations. Shimmery stands as a testament to the strength of female empowerment, with a female writer, director, producer and female-led story. Shimmery blends the classic aesthetics of a showgirl-inspired production with a powerful message of body positivity, diversity and self-love, encouraging audiences to embrace their own individuality.

Neil Simon’s classic comedy The Odd Couple celebrates its opening night at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre on 23 May 2024.

Starring as Oscar and Felix in The Odd Couple are Shane Jacobson and Todd Mckenney, the archetypal odd couple, as different as chalk and cheese, but best mates and constant collaborators. Since they met on the Channel 7 TV series The Real Full Monty several years ago, the friends have worked together on TV in Mates on a Mission and The All New Monty, and on stage in The Rocky Horror Show and Hairspray (as husband and wife). Wicked co-stars Lucy Durack Appreciation Society and Penny McNamee Official play Cecily Pigeon and Gwendolyn Pigeon, the giggly pair of English sisters who live upstairs from Oscar.

Two suddenly single pals — a sloppy sportswriter and a fastidious news writer — strain their friendship by becoming roommates and unconsciously repeating the same mistakes they made in the marriages they just left. Neurotic and neat freak Felix Ungar is thrown out by his wife, and moves in with his slovenly friend Oscar Madison. The characteristics that drove each of them to leave their wives soon have them at each other’s throats in this classic comedy.

It started as a play and Broadway laughed. A movie and a TV series followed and the whole world laughed. Now, laugh all over again with this hilarious new Australian stage production of The Odd Couple.

Matched Giving Day 2024 at Seeing Eye Dogs Melbourne.

Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs is hoping the generosity of Australians can help it prepare more young people for a life changing Seeing Eye Dog.

Seeing Eye Dogs held a special Giving Day on International Guide Dog Day, with funds raised going towards expanding the Seeing Eye Dogs Youth Program. The Youth Program provides young people aged 12-18 with support to develop the qualities they need before they can be matched with a Seeing Eye Dog.

Now in its third year, Seeing Eye Dogs Youth Program Instructor Brooke Anderson said the program is a vital part in preparing the next generation of Seeing Eye Dog handlers. “There’s no doubt a Seeing Eye Dog can change the life of someone who is blind or has low vision, but being matched with one is a big responsibility,” Brooke said.

“The earlier we can equip young people with the necessary orientation and mobility skills and dog care knowledge, the earlier they can begin the process of being matched with a Seeing Eye Dog and benefit from the impact they can have.”

The Youth Program runs for 10 months, with participants receiving one-on-one support sessions, as well as attending a camp at Seeing Eye Dogs’ Melbourne headquarters, where they are given the opportunity to experience handling a Seeing Eye Dog and also meet the other participants.

“Traditionally, people have begun the Seeing Eye Dog process after the age of 18. The Youth Program doesn’t guarantee somebody a Seeing Eye Dog after completion, but it puts them in the position to know if a Seeing Eye Dog is right for them,” Brooke said.

“We have participants from all over Australia participate in the program and through the Giving Day we’re asking people to help us provide the opportunity for even more young people.

“Every year we’ve seen the attitudes of our participants change as their understanding grows of how a Seeing Eye Dog can support them to be active and independent in the community like their friends and family.”

19-year-old student Jasmine Tevelein completed the Youth Program in 2023 and after it gave her an idea of life with a Seeing Eye Dog, she wasted no time in joining the Seeing Eye Dogs waitlist. “Currently I use a white cane when I’m out and about and need a sighted guide at night,” Jasmine said. “During the camp, when we got to walk with a Seeing Eye Dog it was just this freeing feeling as soon as I had the harness in my hand. It really felt like I could do anything I wanted. “I’ve heard people say that’s how they feel when they get their driver’s license and that’s exactly what is was like for me.”

The Seeing Eye Dogs Youth Program Giving Day was held on International Guide Dog Day - today, Thursday, 24 April 2024.

Thanks to the generous support of Seeing Eye Dogs’ corporate partners including Zoetis, Vivcourt and Corporate Match 2, every dollar donated on the day will be matched up to $100,000!

peakhourimages went along for a special tour of the facility and to meet the people who make all this possible, a mix of volunteers and staff who, together; breed, raise, train and match seeing eye dogs with vision impaired people.
