We at Q***r Culture would like to thank everyone who applied and also to congratulate Anne-Frédérique (Fredi) Béchard (she/they/elle/iel) on winning our bursary and we wanted to share a small portion of their essay; ‘I am q***r. My existence is resistance. My ongoing process of unlearning connects me to the innate q***r vitality I have had since childhood. The courage and resilience of The Body Politic contributors and volunteers, as well as that of all q***r people since time immemorial, inspire me on my journey of q***r liberation.’

At Q***r Culture we encourage you to be vulnerable when presenting your honest self. Be strong, brave, and a representative of our community. As an O.G. (Old Gay), I was taught to not demand acceptance but conduct myself in a manner that made it clear, I will not be a victim of bigotry or hate. My wife says “that’s an opinion to have” and walks away. Being a character is one thing, having character is another. It is our honour to have the opportunity to build up our younger generations. Education is key to self confidence, autonomy, and strength of that character. Be yourself, amplified. Research our culture and know that we started a movement that needs your youthful strength to carry it forward. We are here, cheering you on, relying on you to continue what we started.
