The last 30 years part 2!
This September Canuel Caterers will be celebrating its 30th anniversary!
Back in May of 1993, my brother Brian and I presented a proposal to a Delta Secondary School to run the food service operations for their onsite cafeteria. Although both of us had several years of food service experience from working, and running, various franchised restaurants from McDonalds to the Mr. Mikes on 104th Ave in Surrey BC, neither of us had any high school cafeteria experience. To our surprise, we were awarded the contract, we opened the Delta Secondaryโs cafeteria in September 1993, and Canuel Caterers was officially launched.
I am incredibly pleased to say we still operate that initial location today along with dozens more high school cafeterias all over the lower mainland. Whatโs more, Canuel Caterers has expanded over the years to include various corporate accounts, several outdoor park concessions, sports and leisure centres, and many other private catering accounts that we serve out of our commissary production facility that we opened 12 years ago in Surrey BC.
I believe Canuel Caterers has been an integral architect in how foodservice in BC schools has evolved over the last 30 years. Our menus have grown from the hot dogs, the hamburgers, and the French fries of the past to include freshly made salads, wraps, hot entrees, and a selection of breakfast goods baked daily at each site we run. Moreover, we offer self-serve salad and wrap bars at several of our locations, so customers can make them just the way they want.
As we look to the future, and the next generation of Kathy Russo, Dana Canuel, Cara Bouwman (Canuel), and Eric Canuel take over key management roles in the company, I know my brother, Brian, who we lost in April 2014, would be extremely proud of how we continue to grow, how we continue to adapt, and how we continue to keep the idea of providing fresh flavourful food, while eating smarter and healthier, as the foundation on which he and I built Canuel Caterers
