Here's a selection of the Cormorant that has recently begun to visit Merecroft Pool, taken around 11am on 7/7/23.

Once exclusively a seabird, it is now more common around inland lakes and reservoirs. Locally speaking, it is usual to see them at Lifford, Edgebaston Reservoir and also Arrow Valley Park.

Yesterday I took a summer stroll with the doggo to the L.N.R. thankfully I remembered to bring my camera along.

As soon as we got to the Merecroft Pool gate after walking through Meadow Hill, Bru' and I were greeted with an aerobatic display of some dragonflies darting about.

One managed to perch and hang around for a good while. Long enough infact for me to record some video footage and point it out to a fellow photographer who had an encounter with a Cormorant.

After doing a bit of research I have found out that this dragonfly is a male Southern Hawker (Blue Variant).

'Spring is in the Air I can feel it!'

It's a 1st for me, I managed to get a few decent shots of a tree creeper - Certhia familiaris foraging for food, in the 3rd photograph you can see it with some sort of flatworm or beetle grub in its beak. I didn't notice I had managed to capture that moment, until I processed it at home.

Walking through the woods following the Treecreeper from the top of a tree and watch it swooping down to the trunk of another and creep up to the top. I had just enough time to find a partial clearing to alow enough sunlight to give enough contrast to allow my camera to focus and to add a bit of 3D pop. You have to admire its camoflauge.

A few days ago I managed to spot one of the Little egret's, seen at Merecroft Pool and along the River Rea, this time round I saw one along the river bank at Kings Norton, Playing Fields As I approached it flew up into a tree.
