Congratulations to Lois and Rakesh, who were married in the hay meadow in front of Treberfydd this afternoon, looking across to Llangorse lake and the Black Mountains, with the house behind - it’s the first time a ceremony has been held here.

They also held a Hindu ceremony in the gardens, based around a Mandap structure. The two families processed from opposite ends of the garden and met in the middle to symbolise their joining - a wonderful sight with dhol drumming and coloured smoke.

Didn’t get a photo from the day, so here’s one from the day before - thank you to everyone who came to our NGS open day on Sunday, and to everyone who helped. The sun shone, we had a record 250 visitors, and £2079 was raised for National Garden Scheme charities.

Thanks also to who put on delicious teas, cakes, scones and Pimm’s, and to those selling lovely wares in the billiard room!

The house and gardens continue to be open until Monday 27th May, 1pm-5pm, with tours at 2pm and 3pm. See website for details.

The sundial at Treberfydd had suffered frost damage but a meticulous repair job (amazing workmanship and top jigsaw puzzling from Ross Brace) has restored it to its former glory. See pics for some of the repair process - plus a photograph of it from 1905. (Come and see it in person on our National Garden Scheme open day, on Sunday 19 May!)

It was built for Robert and Rosa Raikes’ 25th wedding anniversary in 1903 - hopefully it will last another 120 years

A BBC production of The Famous Five (episode 2) was filmed at Treberfydd last August and shown on Easter Monday (watch it now on iPlayer).

Set in 1939, on the brink of the second world war, the house was transformed into army barracks - the hall was a communications room, the library became a brigadier’s office, and a soldiers’ tent was put up in the garden. All part of the latest mystery-solving mission by George, Julian, Dick, Anne and Timmy the dog…

It was exciting to have the BBC back, last at Treberfydd more than a decade ago to film Doctor Who.

The much admired cedar of Lebanon at Treberfydd has a circumference of 8.6m and a height of 30m (measured earlier this month by as part of a tree survey of the grounds). We are submitting it to the Tree Register, a database of the largest and tallest trees in Britain and Ireland, as a possible champion cedar of Lebanon (cedrus libani) in Wales.
Whether or not it qualifies, we love its magnificent presence.

William Morris, one of the main influencers of the 19th-century Arts and Crafts movement, would have been 190 years old today. There are examples of his original wallpaper at Treberfydd, as well as a frieze and decorative fireplace tiles by other designers that were added to the house in the late Victorian period. His distinctive designs endure - our (non-Victorian) William Morris mugs are in daily use!

‘One of Wales’ most romantic wedding venues’

documents Amber and Hugh’s wedding at Treberfydd last autumn in a new blog post on her website. Babs’ distinctive and evocative style of photography captures their day perfectly, from the decorations and flowers (bride’s own) to the afternoon rainbows, evening feast and dancing.

‘Whether you’re drawn to its historical significance, the breathtaking landscapes surrounding it, or the intimate atmosphere it offers, Treberfydd House will make your wedding day not just an event, but a cherished memory that will last a lifetime’

Some lovely feedback from guests in Hafod y Llyn, our recently opened two-bed self-catering cottage in the stable yard by Treberfydd.

‘We had the most wonderful stay in this fantastic home from home. So beautifully situated for exploring, nestled in the valleys. The walks from the door were a wonderful way to start the day - down to the lake or up high on the ridge. The cottage had everything we could hope for and more. We loved being here and your warm welcome.’

Book via our website - we’ll send you notes ahead of your stay with our favourite places to walk, swim, eat and drink!
