I think you all know how much I have enjoyed joining the Flower Team at St Richards, arranging and displaying flowers in the corridors every week. Well, I am really disappointed- the flowers have been stopped !
Here is part of an email I received yesterday -

Dear All

Apparently an inspection last year said the flowers in corridors were an infection risk but we weren't advised and the inspection team are back this week and noticed the flowers hadn't been stopped. Hence the immediate stoppage on Wednesday. Jen and Jan were told to take the flowers down.

So, that’s that little bit of enjoyment over ! And they don’t want me back at the Charity Shop until my leg is stronger.
So if anyone has any ideas about what I can do with myself - please let me know ! Otherwise it’s on with the gardening I guess ! At least there is plenty to do !

Working on my shift at the St Wilfred’s hospice shop this afternoon and a customer, a lady said to me “your Gill arnt you ? “ when I said yes, she said that she was a nurse and had looked after me at Donald Wilson House. She was very complimentary and said that it was lovely to see me looking so well and the difference from when she has taken care of me. I’m really chuffed ! I have no memory of her whatsoever and it is so nice to have a total stranger say this to me. A good day !

We all know that the pension age for women born in the fifties and sixties has been raised. Did you know a campaign called "Back to 60 movement "has won the right to a Judicial Review and is taking the DWP to the High Court ? On the 5th and 6th June they will attempt to get the 3.9 million women justice over non consultation in raising the pensionable to 66 and above. Michael Mansfield QC will lead the case and the argument for the movement. However there does not appear to be any media coverage regarding this significant event. That is why I am raising the awareness now. Let's hope and pray for justice rightly deserved PLEASE, PLEASE COPY AND PASTE
Seems to be a media blackout on this issue which suggests that the government have put a block on the media reporting it - this is exactly what social media is good at. so share the hell out of it please. Come on ladies this is worth a great deal to you.

Yesterday we shared a picture of a male seal who needed peace to shed his coat. Today we have this lovely female just resting up on the beach. We will likely see more seals over the next few weeks as they come ashore to rest. They do not need to be shooed back into the sea, they don’t need a blanket or visitors either. Please leave them alone. They like to rest on the beach but soon become distressed by people and dogs. Please respect these beautiful animals and their habitat.

When ordering flowers for a funeral it is good idea to consider what will happen to the flowers after the service. It is always lovely to have them there so that everyone can look at them and read the message cards, but after that, you can always ask the funeral directors if you would like to take them home with you or maybe donate them to a nursing/ care home. Alternatively you can always ask the funeral directors to take them to the hospital. If you have been to st Richards in Chichester you may have noticed the lovely flower arrangements on the window sills in the corridors, these are all created by a team of volunteers from arrangements that are donated after funerals. All the local funeral directors have the key code to the flower room where the donated flowers can be left. There are a team of volunteers at st Richards who go there every day to refresh and replace the flower arrangements in the corridors. As I am not currently able to work , following my stroke, I have been volunteering and have joined the team, but over the last couple of months there have been very few donations which is disappointing. Understandably many people ask for donations in lieu of flowers these days, but please understand that there is no need for the flowers to be wasted and they can still provide enjoyment for others. So many staff and patients say how much they enjoy seeing the flowers.

"Pulled this balloon and pieces of a couple others from the field this morn. My sheep had already been chewing on them. For those that let balloons go for celebrations or ceremonies, while the sentiment is sweet as are the intentions. The balloons don't actually go to heaven, instead they land in our fields or in our waterways or in forests, for curious animals to choke on. They never biodegrade and never go away."

I know I can’t work at the moment! But when I see some good advice I like to share it with everyone !……

Your flowers are not meant to last forever - meaning they are delicate and fragile and many factors play into how long they will last (see below)
1. Having your ceremony and reception out doors?
Remember the weather will affect the flowers look.
Incredibly warm, super windy, raining? Keep in mind how this will condition vour florals!

2. Bouquets & boutonnieres, the flowers that are used the most and tossed around during the day! From receiving hugs, to bridal party portraits your blooms will eventually start to look tired - but that's normal! To ensure your bouquets last a little longer, keep them out of the sun when not using them - place them in water as much as possible!

3. If the weather is super hot, humid, your flowers will tend to droop looking more and more tired as the day progresses that is why we recommend not using your bouquets for centrepieces for your reception as they will not be the prettiest at that point.
