What a fantastic day on Alvaston Park 💚

The community fun day was brilliant from start to finish! Great entertainment, a variety of stalls, circus acts and fairground rides. To top it off, we were able to unveil the Green Flag Award which the park fully deserves.

💦 Markeaton Paddling Pool Update 🚧

We’re sorry the paddling pool remains closed but it’s a painstaking job to make sure it will be in the best condition for everyone to enjoy when it reopens. The recent wet weather has meant that work has been delayed again but as soon we have an opening date, we’ll let everyone know.

While resurfacing work continues at the pool, there are still lots of attractions to enjoy at the park. There are free play areas and pay to play activities at Mundy Play Centre, or give the new Tree House Trek High Ropes course a try 🛝 🧗🏻‍♀️⛳️ 🌷 🚗 🏰 💚

Arrive at Markeaton Park this weekend for Derby Summer Sessions stress-free, with direct shuttle buses from Derby Bus Station 🚌

The bus picks up every 15 minutes throughout the day for all three days of the event and takes visitors directly to Markeaton Park.

Posted Community Action Derby • ✨ Celebrating the Derby Voluntary Sector Awards 2024 Winners ✨

🏆 Green Ambassador Award Winner - Colin Attenborough & the Friends of Sinfin Moor Park Local Nature Reserve 🏆

The Friends of Sinfin Moor Park Local Nature Reserve group has worked tirelessly to transform Sinfin Moor Park into a wonderful green space for people to enjoy and for wildlife to flourish in.

The group was formed by local residents in 2007 when the land around the park was regarded as wasteland, uncared for and subject to fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour. The park itself was little used and unwelcoming and the group decided to change that. In partnership with Derby City Council, the group had the whole site designated as a Local Nature Reserve.

Over the years, conservation work has been organised, creating new ponds, planting trees, hedge laying and making wildlife gardens. New and maintained paths mean the park has seen a big increase in the number and diversity of people taking exercise.

The group also set up a volunteer-run café in the previously under-used park pavilion, which has become a real social hub and funds improvements to the park and nature reserve.

As well as recognising that the work and achievements of this group is very much a team effort, one member gets a special mention. Colin Attenborough was, until very recently, Chairman of the group. Sadly, Colin passed away on 29 April 2024. He worked tirelessly for his community, always with a cheery greeting and a can-do attitude. His memory will live on in the park’s pavilion, which the group named in his honour.

The Green Ambassador award honours an individual, group or organisation making a difference to our communities through the promotion and protection of the environment. It was presented by Anna Mimms, Head of Employment Skills & Adult Education at Derby City Council

Last week saw a joint partnership between the Neighbourhoods Team, Pear Tree Junior School, Police, Sporting Communities and Derbyshire Wildlife Trust to undertake a Community Litter Pick on Shaftesbury Park. We were joined by many other organisations wanting offer their help. ♻️

Everyone did a great job – members of the community came out to join us and even residents passing by put down their bags and picked up a litter picker! Thank you!

While resurfacing work continues at Markeaton Park Paddling Pool, there are still lots of attractions to enjoy at the park especially as the weather’s improving. ☀️

There are free play areas and pay to play activities at Mundy Play Centre, or give the new Tree House Trek High Ropes course a try – it’s suitable for children aged 5 (1m tall) upwards. The Famous Trains model railway is open all weekend and you can book for outdoor family theatre this weekend.

Funded by the government’s Department of Health and Social Care and Littleover Neighbourhood Board, there is now an automatic external defibrillator at King George V Playing Field.

This defibrillator is registered on the Circuit (the national defibrillator network) so emergency services can guide anyone to it in an emergency.🚨 🚑 🏨

🚧Markeaton Park Paddling Pool Update💦

The reopening of the paddling pool at Markeaton Park will be delayed due to essential resurfacing work.

Unfortunately, this means the paddling pool will not be ready in time for its usual Spring Bank Holiday opening at the end of May.

Markeaton Park has a host of attractions to keep visitors entertained, including picturesque parkland and walking trails, sports facilities and the popular Craft Village and Orangery Café. At weekends & during half term, families will be able to enjoy bouncy castles, electric cars, canoes, mini golf and fairground rides at Mundy Play Centre, plus the Famous Trains model railway.

Great to be working alongside Friends of Chaddesden Wood , Experian UK volunteers and Derby College students to dig a new pond in Chaddesden Wood, Oakwood.

Started during the winter months, the final profiling was completed at the weekend ready for its new liner.

The goal, retain more water within the wood to provide vital habitat for amphibians 🪵 🌳 🐸
