I am continually fascinated by colour and the effects that can be achieved by its use.
In fact, I could probably bore a lot of people with colour theory on tints/tones/shades and the many variations of colour schemes that can be used. The way we use colour, impacts many things from textile design and fashion through to home interiors, and it's easy to sometimes underestimate it's use.
Moving through Summer and into Autumn, if you are looking for a vivid display to brighten up a corner of the room, have a think about Complimentary colour schemes - these are based around tones which ultimately play off each other and are usually found on opposite sides of the colour wheel. Setting violet against yellow, magenta with lime-green and purple with orange, can create a burst of colour that will brighten your day ! 🧡💜💚❤

Holding the 5th Wishes Floristry Workshop in late Summer.

This will be an "all skill levels" event where attendees will create a design in vibrant Summer colours to take home.
All materials included; just bring your secateurs !
Refreshments will also be included.
Price will be around £40-45.
Event Date - Sunday, 18th August (afternoon session).

As a florist, it's a special job to be there for people through all the highs and lows of life, to make sentiments felt and convey all different types of emotions through the medium of floral design.
One of those times is remembering a loved one, and the designs which are created need to represent a little of their personality.

I'm currently running some Facebook posts to check for possible interest in a new floristry workshop, which I'm hoping to hold in August (potentially Sunday 18th).

This workshop will focus on gorgeous late Summer/early Autumn colours and cost around £40-£45 which will include all materials, as well as refreshments on the day.
You create a beautiful arrangement to take home and display.
These sessions are also perfect as a gift for someone you know 🎁

Wedding season is underway and it's always great to be able to help with those "Big Day" floral designs.

Here's a recent small spray wedding bouquet. Love doing this shape - it is in the cascade style, involves quite a bit of wiring and manipulation, but always a lovely teardrop shape resulting.
So many variations on this are possible in terms of colour, flower type, length and other general proportions.
This one has been completed in two types of ivory roses, eryngium thistles, gypsophila and blue eucalyptus....

Now not everyone loves a Carnation, but I love their frilly fullness, their power as a great focal flower, and their enduring longevity.
And.... in the ever-changing world of flower breeding, new strains are continually being produced.
One example of this is the commercially launched FLORIGENE "Moon" series of transgenic carnations.
In order to obtain more blue-ish lilac tones, these are dianthus which are bred to accumulate delphinidin-based anthocyanins which provide a bluer hue based on certain specific gene types.
The result is naturally bred blue/violet colours which give multiple tones across the range.
Here are some I was using for an arrangement recently with large-headed alliums - they really are unusual and beautiful ! 💙💜

Spending a few days down south and was lucky enough to attend the Harrogate Flower Show this week at the Great Yorkshire Showground. Loads of impressive growers in the Grand Floral Marquee, and fantastic exhibits and installations in the Floral Design display hall (that's my favourite bit !).
Even caught a demonstration by International Floral Designer Jonathan Moseley.
A few pics attached of edited highlights, including gorgeous peonies, new strains of the enormous "Roselily" that's recently been developed, floral design exhibit "Frozen Planet" and some humungous clematis ...

A really big THANK YOU to the lovely ladies who attended this season's Floristry workshop at the weekend ! ⚘ ✂️ 💐
What a fantastic group, and what a gorgeous collection of amazing high-quality displays created to take home, (and a few laughs along the way...!)
This Spring workshop focussed on an asymmetric design, incorporating roses, snapdragons, charmelia, veronica and different fresh foliages such as eucalyptus Parvefolia, cypress and palm leaves.
Hope everyone enjoyed the experience. Here are some photos of the fantastic end results - do you recognise your designs.... ? 😉🌸 x

Irises epitomise the colours of the new Spring season and always look like little ballerinas to me !
Flouncy heads on slender stems, they come in such a wide variety of types and colours, and grow well in ponds and more marshy soils.
They are also great in adding a linear element to floral designs ....

Violet lisianthus blooms, multi-petalled coral tulips, pink roses, white charmelias, gerbera "Café", soft apricot carnations and variety of foliages, helped to create designs with soft but bright complimentary tones, and incorporating the new trend for Pantone's Colour of the year, Peach Fuzz.

Wishes' Valentines flowers this year used a combination of blooms including such delights as the deep cherry toned and velvety-textured "Freedom" roses, and some gorgeously long and extra large bright red tulips called "Strong Love".
Some wispy fronds of Thlaspi (or Greenbell, as it's sometimes known), were also prominent in the foliage this year to give a contrasting sparkle of lime-green 👌🌷💚
Remember, when you receive flowers, even if they have been aqua-packed for transport, ensure you trim the stems (a diagonal cut 2-3cm from the end is best, for maximum water uptake), before arranging in one or more vases.
Ideally, do this every 2-3 days, giving them fresh water.
This will ensure further longevity.

It's been Anniversary time for many folk this Autumn/Winter. I'm getting the pleasure of creating some pretty special bouquets for some lovely people. Here's another one that's gone out recently as a gift for a Ruby Wedding .... ❤🤍🥂
