Remembering my old friend from IBM and Inverclyde Camera Club, Jimmy Canning whose funeral was today.

Jimmy was the nicest of guys - warm, funny, talented and just a really lovely person to be around. He loved to have a chat and a laugh, loved his pipe and his motorbikes and loved taking pictures too!

It was a real thrill to find out unexpectedly that I was shooting his Grand-daughter Emma's wedding in 2013 - he spent the evening watching me and asking to see what I'd shot - then he would criticize every shot I showed him! He had high standards!

A Dad, Grandad and Great Grandad, I know Jimmy will be greatly missed by his family and those who had the pleasure to be around him. My condolences to them all at such a sad time.

"Staffin Blue" - a beautiful afternoon at Staffin Bay on our recent trip to Skye.

Talisker Bay is on the Isle of Skye's western coast, a 17 mile drive then a 20 minute hike from civilisation. The beach is characterised by towering cliffs and waterfalls and large, dark pebbles. On the evening we drove there the light looked promising, but by the time we arrived it was flat, grey and boring. But after spotting a composition I liked, I decided to go for it and broke out the D750, 18-35 and LEE filters. Hope you like it...

Saddened to read of the death of one of Britain's iconic portrait photographers, Terry O'Neill.

When I was learning photography, he was one of these guys (like Patrick Lichfield) whose work you saw and you just marveled at - a guy with no education from the East end of London who just wandered down to Fleet Street, got a job and made his name from there. If you don't know who he is, I've linked to a piece from the BBC below.

Another idol gone... RIP Terry.
