1. Choose a florist whose designs you love 💕 as tempting as it might be to choose a florist on price alone, there is no point having cheap flowers which you hate on your wedding day. 2. Share your budget with your florist and keep an open mind. Your florist will have seen a lot of weddings and probably worked at your venue so will know what will look great and what won’t work.
3. Trust me I’m a florist! Giving your florist a little bit of creative freedom allows us to maximise your budget. Try not to have very specific flower varieties - but have a clear feeling or vibe on how you’d like your day to look & feel.

After 20 years of experience I really believe the best results come from trusting your wedding florist and leaving them to manage the finer details.

You only need to give your florist an overall understanding of your preferred style and after that they will handle the rest - they will know what's in season, which bloom lasts well and what flower perfectly complements another. Choosing any wedding supplier can be daunting, but when you meet the right people, you will be able to trust that they will meet your vision, and so much more!

The goal as a wedding florist is that we give you confidence to totally relax into your wedding planning and hopefully enjoy the whole process 💛

The days are longer, the weather sunnier and wedding season is fast approaching 💛

Lots of planning meetings, venue visits and phone calls taking place at the moment, as we plan for upcoming weddings.

Our favourite flowers for wedding florals and styling right now? Hydrangeas, agapanthus, peonies, roses, sweet peas, dahlias and ranunculus….

What are your favourites? 🌸🌷🌻🌺

When it comes to choosing the perfect colour palette for your wedding flowers, it's helpful to think about the season and overall look and feel of your wedding.

If pink is your theme, consider the blush pinks and peaches that work perfectly in the Spring, brighter pops of coral pinks are lovely in the Summer and purple-pinks are beautiful in Winter.

Of course, these are only guidelines and there are no real rules when it comes to colour schemes! The joy of being a wedding florist is that every couple comes with a different brief, so every wedding is perfectly unique 💛

Maybe a week or so early, but glorious Spring weather is kicking in and it's time to think about Spring blooms for weddings 🌸

Wedding flowers in Springtime can really bring so much colour to a wedding, from large branches of blossom weaved through a venue, to tulips, narcissi, anemones, or muscari found in bouquets and table arrangements. Get creative with bulbs and moss arrangements for centre pieces, or fill jam jars with spring blooms or wild flowers for a beautifully rustic look.

Bring beautiful fragrant Spring scents into your wedding venue with stocks, lilac flowers and lily of the valley. It really is a gorgeous time of year to get married!

Enjoy a little much needed sunshine this week 💛🌿

When it comes to bouquets, whether you choose large statement or more petit blooms - both can be incredibly impactful! The secret is thinking about foliage, tones, textures and colours, and bringing them all together to reflect the overall look and feel of your wedding.

This relaxed but beautiful combination of Campanula, Roses, Lissianthus, Queen Anne's lace, Delphinium, and the herb Thalaspi looked absolutely stunning. Similar country garden blooms arranged in vases appeared throughout the venue, bringing it all together perfectly 💛 🌿

Beautiful peonies!

Whether you go for bouquet of similar tones, or introduce a range of colours (swipe across to see a stunning bouquet!), peonies make a wonderful choice for Summer weddings, whatever your style.

By pairing a few accent peonies with more budget friendly flowers you will instantly add drama and volume 🌿

As you start out on your wedding planning, setting a budget for your flowers is really important.🌿

As you start to consider your bouquet style, colour palette and identify the flowers you want to have as a part of your wedding, I highly recommend that you share your vision AND your budget with your florist early on in the process. As wedding florists we all have creative ideas on how to re-use or move floral elements throughout the wedding, or source an alternative bloom, or suggest a way to distribute your budget for maximum effect.

The average spend on florals for UK weddings can be up to 10%, depending on the style and scale of the occasion, and knowing your budget early on, means your florist can work with you to design something beautiful to suit you perfectly. Quality flowers cost what they cost, but with years of experience I can suggest solutions that you may not have considered.

Little ideas like popping bridesmaid bouquets into jars for the top table, or using your favourite blooms for the bouquet then alternatives for decor, can keep costs down 🌿💐

Venue styling is such an important part of your planning, and I always consider where to place your chosen wedding blooms throughout the reception spaces; from nooks and crannies to carefully designed tablescapes.

We have a wide variety of vessels and vases, lanterns and candleholders to help in the styling of your wedding day, and can happily help source other accessories.

These peachy pastel tones work perfectly with the mix of candles and tea lights - such romantic styling from a wedding at The Vermont Hotel in Newcastle 💛

This is Northumberland! 🌿 Living in such beautiful countryside is partly what inspired the name Green and Gathered.

I’m Catherine, wedding florist and venue stylist and I live near the market town of Hexham in a pretty, rural village with my husband and 5 dogs (Connie, Cora, Scampi, Tean and Pip) who all keep me very busy when I'm not working - infact this cosy night in front of the fire is a typical scene (swipe across to see!)

With such beautiful surroundings on our doorstep, we are lucky enough to enjoy these views daily, and we have very good knowledge of the area and fantastic local wedding venues. If you are looking for advice, do get in touch! 🌿

And stay safe in the winds today!

One of our top tips as you start to think about your wedding flowers...

Be flexible and open to what's in season, even just discussing alternatives with your florist will ensure that your flowers are the best quality they can be, so that they look amazing on your day.

Green & Gathered owner Catherine loves peony roses but explains why it's important not to get too attached to a particular flower; "I adore peony roses, but I really don't have a love of them out of season. They are so small, not good quality and totally off the radar in expense - a bit like eating strawberries in mid November!"

A flower in its season will bloom with life, and create showstopping florals. Instead of focusing on a particular flower, we recommend focusing on the palette and vibe, and then give your florist the freedom to use the best seasonal blooms they can find.

Embrace the seasons! We promise it is worth it! 🌿

Mixing foliage in a bouquet adds interest and depth to your wedding flowers, and offers flexibility and choice when it comes to venue styling. Green foliage adds variety, texture and structure to floral design, here are some interesting ways to use greenery:

🌿 Ivy creates stunning trailing lines for added drama around a venue, and can also be used in headdresses and table centrepieces.

🌿 Eucalyptus brings beautiful pastel shades of greens and blues, adding texture to bouquets, wreaths and venue decor.

🌿 Ferns can be impactful and eye-catching, with their triangular shape bringing structure to an arrangement.

🌿 Pittosporum (pictured) has multiple sprigs, bringing mass, white tones, texture and interest to bouquets and decor.

A dramatic mantle arrangement at Le Petit Chateau in Otterburn... 🌿

Cascading tails of Amaranthus, beautifully scented Stocks, Lissianthus, Avalanche Roses, Hydrangeas and plenty of eucalyptus were all used to create this rustic, and beautiful, floral feature.

This spectacular giant marble fireplace and mantle is a feature of the Belle Époque inspired French Chapel ceremony room at Le Petit Chateau - a romantic, enchanting venue complete with a storybook thatched roof. A stunning location for a wedding!

For venue styling, or 2022 / 2023 bookings, drop Catherine an email - [email protected].

Hydrangeas are one of Green & Gathered owner Catherine's favourite blooms - they bring texture, romance and volume to all elements of wedding flower styling, especially when used throughout a space.

These simple but elegant centrepieces were created for a beautiful wedding at Ellingham Hall in Northumberland and perfectly complemented the reception decor, allowing guests to easily chat across the table, while still keeping these beautiful blooms in sight.

Creating these was an absolute joy, and it is always wonderful to see the design come together on the big day!

Congratulations to everyone celebrating an engagement over Christmas and New Year 💞

We love hearing our bride and groom's wedding adventures, from initial location scouting to the finer details of their vision.

When the time comes to think about flowers we recommend creating Pinterest boards and snapping inspiration from magazines, but also don't forget to take note of the flowers and greenery you spot as you are out and about - sometimes inspiration can hit you on a country walk, or as you wander past someone's beautiful garden! 🌿

Looking forward to working in this beautiful space in the summer
