Blending this gorgeous family through the sharing of a heartbeat 💓 was a beautiful and spine tingling ritual that brought a big old lump to my throat, I can tell you!

They were open to lots of ideas and this one, in particular, resonated with them. We rehearsed it beforehand and you could have heard a pin drop when we completed the ritual in the ceremony itself. There was a huge round of applause and many happy tears afterwards!

This was one wedding and one family that I will never forget 🙏❤️🙏 xx

A handtying ritual formed part of Maxine & Jake’s super happy wedding ceremony at the beautiful 😊. This ritual is where the term ‘tying the knot’ comes from and it’s beautifully symbolic ✨ “hand to hand, pulse to pulse, heart to heart” ✨.

Performed within a sacred circle, this loved up couple shared their vows and exchanged wedding rings while bound by the ribbons - cool eh?!? - and then tied the knot, to cheers and applause from their guests.

There was so much love and laughter at this ceremony. The stars certainly aligned for these gorgeous people ✨🙏✨. Thank you Maxine & Jake for asking me to be your celebrant 🥹 x

I had a lovely day hosting some members of my North Wales and Cheshire Celebrant Networking Group yesterday for a few hours of free learning. We were joined by our friend and Funeral Director Jonathen from Lord-Brown & Harty Ltd who generously gave his time to provide us with some advice and support.

Regardless of how long we’ve been Celebrants, it’s good to get together and help each other. It’s wonderful to have friends and cheerleaders in this industry. Collaboration over competition every time 😌

When I’m asked why I became a Celebrant, I tell
people about the funeral of my youngest brother. I remember standing at the end of the service as his coffin was carried out and thinking “there’s got to be a better way”.

His funeral was held in Norwich Cathedral and - all credit to the amazing work that he did - it was packed to the rafters. But in the 50 minute service, there was just a few minutes about his life, his family and his achievements. The rest was an “insert name here” standard service.

So I became a celebrant, specialising in leading funeral services that speak about the family’s loved one as soon as the opening music fades. It’s all about their story, their journey and everything we can celebrate about them.

Over the years, my funerals have included laughter, special memories, music, dancing and symbolic rituals. I’ve had Morris Dancers, brass bands, bagpipes, harpists, a Shona, ukulele’s, poems read by children in the family and tributes read by families who shake with tears - but for whom it is SO important to tell everybody how much their loved one means to them.

Involving people in the ritual of farewell has been part of humanity for millennia - and facilitating this for families - is one of the greatest privileges of my life.

RIP Tom ❤️ I think of you every single day and thank you for everything you taught me, even in death xx

Yesterday’s beautiful sunshine took me back to this couple’s stunning wedding on Ynys Môn last year. Bright blue skies, in an extremely special place to the couple, a real buzz of anticipation, excitement, love and happiness - the whole day was full of joy.

And that, my friends, is why you have a Celebrant. The location wasn’t licensed so this gorgeous couple had all the freedom they needed to make their wedding day exactly what they wanted it to be. Flexibility on time, where the ceremony was, what was said and who was involved - and no stuffy rules. Just the day THEY wanted.

I love the fact that celebrants can help couples write vows. I love the fact that we can point couples in the right direction too. Reading poetry forms a big part of a celebrant’s continuous search for the right words. And these words are absolutely beautiful ❤️.

If there was one thing that stood out in the funeral I conducted yesterday, it was love. So much love ❤️.

Love for the determined and loving lady who had died, love for everything she did, love for who she was and love for how she showed love.

And the care, love and respect shown to her beloved husband and much loved dad and Taid by their family was just incredible. He didn’t take his eyes off her coffin.

The joy of love, the sadness of loss, inextricably linked ❤️💔❤️.

Yet this wonderful family still found time and space in their grief to say thank you and give me the most thoughtful gift, which I will treasure and use every day. It might sound cliché but I really am so privileged to be part of these beautiful celebrations of love and life 🙏 x

Are your venues giving you all the options for your wedding ceremony?

At yesterday's amazing UK Weddings Conference with Guides for Brides we were astonished to discover that so many venues did not know the ceremony options available to couples...

But all were keen to find out!

Did you know?...

✨️ Getting married at a licensed venue does NOT mean you are compelled to have a registrar-led civil ceremony.

✨️Many couples now choose to complete their legal marriage before the 'big day', allowing them to have a fully personalised and flexible ceremony with an independent celebrant at a venue of their choice, whether licensed or not.

✨️In the Guides for Brides panel of brides and grooms, when asked whether their ceremony options were explained by their venue, ALL said no (registrars were presented as the only option)... and ALL said if they knew, they definitely would have considered a celebrant.

✨️So couples... the choice is yours!

✨️And venues... when showing couples around, please do explain their ceremony options. More choice and personalisation = a happier couple and an even more wonderful wedding day 💖
