Argyll, where I live, has beaches, castles, vistas and mountains making it a wonderful place to marry. And we have several venues offering wedding packages with many of the above. Many already know that, but more couples are choosing to organise everything themselves, not going to a staffed venue, keeping their ceremony simple but meaningful.
This is Kilchurn Castle, I’ll try to catch more rainbow’s end pictures!

The end of a busy month with big and small weddings ranging from 5 (the minimum possible) to over 100.

Love is the common denominator and couples being able to choose how and where to marry.

As I travelled out of my “home” area I was struck by the grandeur of the landscapes and mountains, the changing moods of water, the wildlife and livestock you meet along the way and the wonderfully iconic castles Scotland has.

Perhaps I take it all as normal in my home
environment.

A Humanist Wedding in Scotland offers so many choices!

As you see, I don’t post often here, but this appeals greatly.

What many Celebrants experienced last year has been confirmed. The marriage and civil partnership statistics for 2022 have been released by the National Records of Scotland (NRS)
The Humanist Society Scotland remain by far the most popular choice for weddings in Scotland, doing more than double the next biggest provider of weddings (the Church of Scotland). In 2022 Humanist Society Scotland celebrants conducted 4,533 marriages - making it our busiest year ever (2021 was our previous busiest year at 3,537). The increase of 996 weddings year on year is also the biggest increase in the number of weddings of any group in Scotland.

It’s not been an easy year for many and challenges will continue, but here’s to hope for finding joy and peace wherever you are.

New Year greetings to all those I have worked with - wedding couples and families saying goodbye to loved ones. You are often in my thoughts. And greetings to the staff at venues and to the other folks who arrive “on the day”, it’s wonderful to feel so welcome and be part of the team.

Best wishes to all xx

Wise words from a colleague. I’ve covered six ceremonies for two colleagues who’ve become unwell over the last two months.

It’s a rare event but the HSS promise is a great back up, they will find a Celebrant when the need arises.

Last Friday a Celebrant was needed for my home area, Argyll, which is thought to be pretty remote from much of Scotland, for the following day. Had I not been available another colleague would have come over from Dundee.

This week one of my colleagues took unwell. She had several wedding and funeral ceremonies to conduct. She contacted our local area celebrant group and within hours had a replacement in place for every ceremony.

I conducted a wedding on her behalf, meeting the couple online the day before, reassuring them everything would be fine. We had a lovely outdoor ceremony in the sunshine with 30 or so nearest and dearest.

This is part of the Humanist Society Scotland’s Promise: "It’s very rare that the celebrant you’ve booked is unable to conduct your ceremony and this would only be in extreme circumstances such as serious illness. However, as the largest provider of humanist ceremonies in Scotland, we have the network to find you a replacement, even at very short notice. We have office staff available to ensure we can respond quickly to any emergency with minimal stress to you. Although unlikely to happen, always ask your chosen organisation how they provide cover in emergencies."

Hi, this wee message is a polite, but big and important reminder to all couples getting married in Scotland, whenever and wherever and whoever is marrying you. The National Records of Scotland, NRS, have reported a rise in the number of couples submitting their notices, very close to, or even after the 29 day deadline.

So, if I am reminding, nagging you 🙂 , about this, it's because it is really important that you submit your forms to the Registrar no sooner than 3 months before your big day and no later then 29 days before.....please don't leave it to the last minute !!

The forms should be submitted to the Registrar's office nearest to your venue, not where you live.
If in doubt - give me a shout!!!!

(My thanks to colleague Lesley Yule Humanist Celebrant - who posted this reminder)

On , we show support for those who have lost loved ones during the covid-19 pandemic, and remember those they have lost. 🌼

When you are lonely,
I wish you love.
When you're down,
I wish you joy.
When you are troubled,
I wish you peace.
When things are complicated,
I wish you simple beauty.
When things are chaotic,
I wish you inner silence.
When things look empty,
I wish you hope.
