My regular followers would know yellow isn’t my normal ‘go-to’ colour in a design, but it was specifically requested by my client today. I cooperated some edible flowers, calendula, dill, dahlia, nigella, mint,in the design too due to the nature of the function. I’m really pleased with the design and may start using more yellow in future!

What could be more quintessential British summer blooms than roses and sweet peas? With some decent weather at last, they are both abundant and beautiful in my garden at the moment😍😍😍

Nigella is in it’s full glory right now. I’m just fascinated by the forever changing stamens and the various shapes of seed pods which can be used as dry flowers. It’s easy to grow and flower well even in this cold weather! What’s there not to like?

I’m having mixed success with my flowers so far this year. My seedlings are just sitting there not doing a great deal. I was alarmed to see the thermometer in the greenhouse registered 5.7c as minimum temperature this morning! No wonder why the seedlings just sit there and sulk 😒. The roses seem to have started flowering about 3 weeks earlier than previous years. Conus is another success story. I’ve had the best flowers to date. They are just so elegant! Incidentally, you may recognise those candle holders. They were made by Aren’t they beautiful?

In , I’m not going to repeat the benefits of buying British flowers as there have been many posts stating them already. Instead, I’m going to tell you my personal reasons of growing flowers. Despite having been a keen gardener for many years, I still get a buzz seeing seeds germinated and cuttings rooted. I suppose they give me the feeling of hope. I also like the aspect of nurturing something small and insignificant into something beautiful, but foremost and upmost, it’s the pleasure they give people when they receive my flowers that motivates me to keep growing.

On the first day of , I’m proud to be a flower grower and floral designer using predominantly flowers grown by myself. I’m first to admit that I’m not the most time efficient when it comes to picking and arranging flowers. It’s a very considered process for me. I always endeavour to match clients’ wishes. I like strolling up and down the garden picking just the right combination for that specific occasion. Perhaps it’s also a selfish act, as I find it very mindful and it’s as good as meditation for me!

Some of my May blooms in this design. After months of waiting, the garden suddenly bursted in colours. Hesperis, geum, viburnum opulus, allium and clematis are all in their elements. I’m now busy nurturing my dahlias and planting out annuals. Never a dull moment but lots of beautiful things to come.

LATE SEASON TULIPS - my tulips for cutting were over a few weeks ago. But these beauties are still going in my borders. They’ve been in flowers for a couple of weeks now, I’ll definitely grow them again next year. I particularly like Copper Image - they give real peonies a run for their money!

Sometimes beauty can be found in simplicity. I love everything about cow parsley. They’re airy, delicate and statuesque. Best of all, they are abundant all around the country lanes near me! They certainly make my dog walks more pleasurable.

Hard to believe that Rosie is almost 7 months old. It’s harder to believe how much she’s grown! Apart from a few missing corners of skirting boards in our newly decorated kitchen and a ruined garden😭, there haven’t been too many other casualties! 🐾

Crab apple trees - what’s there not to like? Beautiful soft pink blossoms mature to white. The whole tree is smothered in blossoms which turn into decorative fruits in the autumn. Sadly, the blossoms were very ephemeral this year due to the gusty wind! Hopefully, there will be plenty of fruits to come yet.

No wonder why La Belle Epoque is such a sought after tulip. Their unusual toffee colour with beautiful pink veins which intensifies as they age. They last a long time both in pots and as cut flowers in vases. Give them a trial next year if you can get hold of them!

All my tulips are out in full with a few days of warm weather. It would be a crime not to make the most of them! The crab apple trees in the garden are completely laden with blossoms, and they form a good foil for the tulips.

I’m just surprised that the tulips are in reasonable condition despite the persistent rain. After a warm weekend, they’re all raring to go. Although there are early and late season varieties, in practice, I don’t think they make much difference. When they’re ready to flower, you can’t stop them!

Had a great week skiing in Cervinia/Zermatt last week. Large area of skiing if the link between the two areas is open. It was shut for a couple of days due to high wind, but there was ample skiing on Cervinia alone anyway. The quaint snow train in Zermatt added atmosphere. It helped that it was a sunny week! The last pic was a cocktail Bombardino which we got used to before the last one down the valley!

Sisters at play. Rosie is now 20 weeks old, and she’s about half the size of Nelly. She’ll probably end up bigger than Nelly, judging by her enormous paws! They love being in each other’s company. They’re doings very good job in destroying my garden😫

Welcome February! Apologies for being quiet lately. Apart from some planning and tidying up, not a lot happened in my flowering world in January. Can’t wait for the spring to come any quicker. My narcissi and tulips are emerging, and the nodding heads of hellebores are a delightful sight. It won’t be long before they will be ready to go in beautiful bouquets and designs. Spring, bring it on!

This time of the year, it’s difficult to find any floral inspiration. Instead, I’ll give you an pupdate. Rosie is now 16 weeks. She is growing so fast, and she is now officially ‘leggy blond’! She had her mad moments but on the whole she is calm and loves being with people and other dogs. She loved being stroked and tummy tickled. Like all the retrievers, she loves her food and treats most of all. She would do anything when there’s food around. First training class coming weekend, hopefully, she’ll come back a model puppy!

Meet Rosie who is the latest addition to the Chau family. Nelly (2nd picture) was rather lonesome after losing her elder sister in June. After giving Rosie the cold shoulder for a couple of days, they are now besties! They’re so sweet together 🥰🥰🥰. I got a feeling this isn’t the last time you’ll see them. ❄️

I’m going to break the trend, and put up a non Christmas post! This design was inspired by an Online Masterclass talk by Rachel Siegfried a few weeks ago. It was about ‘Cut flowers from your garden’ any season of the year. Basically, one does not need a lot of flowers in a natural looking design. The focal flower here is the chrysanthemum Avignon Pink. I think I still need some convincing to grow chrysanthemums. Mine haven’t been the most productive and they bloom so late in the season when there is hardly anything else around.
