The Northwich Geek Retreat store has regrettably agreed that it must close its doors.

Despite the franchisees efforts, they were unable to raise sufficient funds to settle significant outstanding debts with their landlord. While this marks a challenging chapter for the team, they are committed to taking the necessary time to seek a new investor and potentially to return to the franchise when they are well-capitalised, which they hope to achieve within the next two years.

We would like to thank Callum and Kyle for being part of Geek Retreat.
And wish them all the best for the future.

To our Digimon community - thank you for your incredible commitment, and ravenous hunger to play. The sheer growth of the community is a testament to your kindness as a group.

We’ll endeavour to create a new safe space as soon as we can.

Thanks to our friends at Northwich Rugby Club, Moss Farm and Geek Retreat Warrington we are still able to do our Saturday and Sunday events!

Today was a extremely heartbreaking day for Geek Retreat Northwich to say the least.

We have had a baliff at the store demanding that we pay rent arrears on the premises. A rent arrears that significantly accumulated during Covid lockdowns, whilst we were not open at all. We have tried over many months to come to an agreement with Savills, the landlord. The baliff has now informed us that every single item of our stock (and even some personal belongings, if they are related to card games!) are no longer ours and will be put up for auction to mostly cover their costs.

We are two Northwich lads that had a dream of creating a safe-space where like minded people could come and play, eat and make long lasting friendships. We have seen that happen so many times over the past 3 years and to see it be taken away, just before we celebrate our 3rd birthday and the launch of Disney’s Lorcana is just too devastating to put into words.

We have tried to contact anybody to avert what is happening, be that speak to family members, contact at local business to try and arrange a partnership that would enable us to carry on. I’m so sorry to say that none of the this has come to pass.

We have loved every day being a part of the community of Northwich - we all live and love it here. We hope that the enjoyment we offered to anyone who’s come in to geek out with us, however small, will live on in the town’s memories.

We have tried so many times to come to an arrangement with Savills, but none of the options proposed have been to their satisfaction. We cannot stress enough how difficult it has been to try and compromise with them. And as Northwich lads, it is so frustrating to see what seemingly will become another empty, unused space on Baron’s Quay. All through something that could have hopefully been avoided if the landlord could have potentially met us halfway.

Unfortunately it seems they would prefer us to be closed, for good.

I’m conscious of this post becoming any longer, but as it may be the last time we get to speak - we just all want to extend our deepest gratitude to every single customer that has walked through our doors. Be it a milkshake or a Pokémon booster box, we have loved serving each and every one you.
