An Autumn Wedding at Enterkine House Hotel with Josh + Rebekah

I've known Rebekah and her family for over 10 years now and it was an absolute honour to be asked to capture their wedding day story and party on with them into the night 🥳

Despite the weather warnings, the rain stayed off from lunchtime right through so we managed to explore the beautiful grounds and enjoy drinks and portraits on the balcony.

~ The Misty Isle in Black+White ~

Let’s talk colour vs black and white. I learned on film over twenty years ago at university. I love film, and in particular I love the beauty of a good black and white film like Ilford HP4. Why? Well, it changes how you work and frame an image. There is not colour to distract you from the subject, the grain feels tangible, and you get closer to the subject and emotion. It feels more cinematic and ethereal.

I like to include a good selection of black and white images as the emotion and connection of the couple’s story is a big part of what I want to leave you with. But I don’t see that as simple as making a colour image in your gallery black and white; it has to feel and look right first. I even shoot in black and white on camera when I’m looking to strip things back on a wedding day, so what I see in the view finder isn’t distracted by horrible lighting or colour casts.

These images are edited with new Majestic monochrome and I can’t think of a better way to describe it. It’s a beauty.

Skye on a Scottish honeymoon.

I met Abigail through a photography group and together with Bethany, we chatted (with a little visit from Ava) over Zoom. The girls were married in their beautiful home in Lake Michigan and then honeymooned in Scotland, visiting Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Skye.

The weather didn’t disappoint, Scotland threw the lot at them - sideways rain, late autumn sun, stormy and misty skies, and some gale force wind just to be sure.

The girls brought all their energy, love, smiles and even their wedding dresses, and we had a fab time exploring the Fairy Glen and enjoying the breathtaking Quiraing.

A big shout out to Anne for assisting me for the first (and hopefully not last) time ❤️

Key to any shoot on Skye, bring yer boots, a rain jacket, and your smile. Embrace what it offers you and dance.

Amy and Will Rusack had an equal parts fabulous and elegant day at Wedderlie House in the Scottish Borders. Spoiler alert - so did I. It was a real pleasure to be part of their story, from enquiry through planning, to the explosion of joy and love on the day.

I love the hours following sunset, the golden hour and the blue hour bring something different but equally magical to the experience and the feel of an image. I can’t help but feel warmth and excitement as the season approaches full swing, and take in the relaxed nature of eloping in the highlands.

Morning preparations and pre ceremony bridal portraits are such a wonderful time of your wedding day.

The excitement builds, the Prosecco flows (yes, I’ll have a glass 😉) and those first few moments in your wedding outfit for the day surrounded by family and your closest friends.

This is one of my favourite images this year, of the stunning Sophie as she took a breath before marrying Marc.

My first time at for a few years and I hope it won’t be another few years before the next time!

Why is time away from your guests as a newly married couple important?

“I don’t care if the photographs are rubbish, I have had such a great time doing this” - direct quote from Hannah on Saturday as we looked down over Largs bay and out to the islands.

Saturday marked my last big wedding of the year, and it was all kinds of awesome! Hannah and Andy contacted me earlier in the year, and booked in after our meeting to join them and tell the story of their day on 5 November - a date chosen so Hannah wouldn’t forget her own wedding day!

The ceremony and reception took place at Brisbane House Hotel on Largs seafront in Ayrshire, and for the couple portraits we took the short drive up to the viewpoint at Haylie Brae. The day started with rain - good luck on your wedding day - but by mid afternoon the blue skies and sun shone through.

Your wedding day is busy, hectic, and generally fast paced. For some it can be tiring making sure you get to speak to everyone. Twenty to thirty minutes away from your guests is a chance for you both to breathe, take it all in, go a short walk, practice your first dance away from the glare, enjoy some laughs together and pinch yourself - yes, you’re really married! All the while not really realising you are there to get your picture taken.

~ Dream on, dreamer ~

An Isle of Skye styled elopement shoot

Last week, I joined a small band of likeminded and wonderful souls on the Isle of Skye for the third Dreamadair workshop. 🤩

Here’s a shot from the end of our four seasons tour of Skye at the mythical Quiraing. They don’t call it the Misty Isle for nothing…more coming soon!

Huge thanks to:

• Our beautiful venue and my home from home for a few days .scot who gave us saunas, a steam room, heating to dry off in, and amazing food and cocktails! Oh and their very own gin. Andy’s not half bad at the old cocktail making and whizzed me up a fab Tom Collins.

An Autumn 🍂 outdoor elopement in Glencoe and Oban 🏔

Benj and Steph travelled up to Scotland from Yorkshire and stayed in a beautiful Air BnB in Oban, and then we travelled to Glencoe Lochan for their ceremony. Sean then led us on a wee adventure through some amazing spots in the Glencoe area, before we said our goodbyes and headed to the for dinner and a pint.

This was one of my favourite portraits of Benj and Steph on the day, nestled in some stunning autumn auburn scenery and focused only on each other. I love the quiet and considered aspect of elopements and wee weddings, you can feel the presence of love.

I read someone say “I’ve enjoyed this break so much I almost forgot I had a job”. Now, I enjoyed Christmas and New Year but with broken ribs, I could only enjoy it so much! And I could never forget I am in such a privileged position as a photographer of people’s stories. BUT, it wasn’t easy getting back to the desk this morning…so I’ll start with last year’s top nine images according the Instagram data crunchers.

I shot so many wonderful events last year; weddings, engagements, portraits, family sessions, graduations, styled shoots, and christenings. The beginning of last year was tough for everyone - but I’ll fondly remember 2021 for all the love and laughter, fun and happily ever after I was honoured to be chosen to capture from May until the end of November.

Photography gave me so many of my high points from last year, and some wonderful human connections. I also shot a record number of weddings for my business as we continue to grow. 2022 will be my biggest yet and I thank everyone for being along for the ride! A rising ship lifts all tides, and we have a wonderful community helping to lift my little tide over here on the west coast of Scotland.

Benj and Steph ~ Glencoe & Oban elopement

Covering an elopement in Glencoe is always an enriching experience, none more so than when I’m accompanying a great pal in

Sean and I first met in 2017 at a event in Glasgow and he’s not managed to get rid of me yet! In all seriousness, I’ve been searching for my voice, my direction and my style this last year in what felt like a bit of a crossroads after setting up a decade ago.

Working with Sean, who is a master at what he does, has really helped me develop those things but he also gave me the space to see that I can be quiet, considered and gentle - and still achieve what I want to capture on camera and in editing.

And it’s pretty simple from my part, I want to photograph how it feels because those are your memories. And I do that through connecting with you, and immersing myself in your day so that I understand what you want.

Learning with the aim to better myself, to make your stories truly feel, is something that I not only love doing, but also something I hope I never stop doing.

Connection ~ Scott x Rogue (The Bearded Rogues)

Gary, Susie and I met through and have become really good pals through our love of photography, music and joining each other on the journey we're on. Gary and I first spoke about putting together our own styled shoot some time ago, and we've finally gone and nailed it!

Our base was in Ayr at the stunning new venue Wellington House on the Square, lovingly restored and crafted by Sharon and her husband Gary. Check it out for a really unique and wonderful space!

I asked Susie and Nonie if they'd be willing to be our models for the day back in May this year, over a beer in Glencoe. I'm so pleased they said yes, and they didn't stop giggling all day.

These are early previews, and there's a lot more to come but for now, enjoy some of the best of the day.
