The hardest 11 weeks, but I can hardly remember a time without our little sunshine man 🩵

There have been lots of beautiful weddings over the last 11 weeks, and I’ve been so so grateful to my amazing freelancing friends and for working alongside me to make sure our brides get the most beautiful flowers ever. I’ll always remember your kindness and how hard you’ve worked to help me.

Lots of photos from these weddings to share, but there aren’t enough hours in the day right now to get them edited and uploaded!

So here’s a tiny selection of the (literally) thousands of the last couple of weeks with Arthur 🩵

Thanks again so much to every single person who has given advice or kind messages - you are so appreciated!

10/05/2024

Back in January, while I was still pregnant with Arthur, I was diagnosed with gallstones. These had developed during pregnancy and unbeknown to me that is very common. Anyway, in the last 5 months I have been admitted to hospital and taken to A&E numerous times with indescribable pain. It was bad enough while pregnant, however with a newborn it has been horrendous. All I want is to be at home enjoying my beautiful boy, but that’s been disrupted and I feel so robbed.

Anyway to cut an incredibly long and winding story short(er), the flares have got worse and more prolonged, and my blood tests became more alarming. Yesterday I underwent surgery and am home recovering. Even though it was keyhole surgery, they stressed to me that it was a major surgery and that the recovery is not to be taken lightly. So I’m being looked after really well and following their instructions.

Because of all of this, I have come to a decision to close the diary for the year and to take a more realistic maternity leave. I won’t be taking anymore wedding bookings for 2024, and I won’t be hosting any consultations for further bookings (for 2025/2026) until October/November 2024. I want to be able to enjoy more time with my baby after I’ve been so unwell for the first nearly 8 weeks.

All of my weddings that are already booked still stand and will all be completed as agreed. I have organised excellent florists to work with and assist me with any weddings that will need it, so there is definitely no need for anyone to panic!!

Thanks for understanding 🩵

Ps. Fun fact - I bit my lip during/short after surgery and it is the size of a grape it is so swollen. I can see the teeth marks in it 😂

Arthur Albert Morrison 🩵
Born on Monday 18th March 2024, at 3.34pm, weighing 7lbs 3oz 💙

I could not be prouder to announce the birth of our beautiful son. My most precious creation ever, and the absolute light of our lives.

Getting him here was an incredibly traumatic experience, due to shocking treatment, until we were finally looked after by a duo of amazing midwives and I could not be more grateful for them as without them I don’t know where we would be.

Looking at our son feels like nothing I’ve ever experienced. He’s brand new, we spent months wondering what he would look like, but I look at him and just think “well of course it’s you! It was always going to be you”. It is like I’ve known him all my life.

I can’t even begin to describe the challenge that this first week has been, again with inconsistent care and advice from medical professionals, exhaustion and emotional hormonal overload - but we are hopefully on the up now that we have again finally had some fantastic help from some fantastic professionals.

This time last year we went through the hardest, most painful grief of our lives, and I never ever thought I’d be lucky enough to be posting this announcement. And whilst I’m sure there are so many of you who are overjoyed for us, I also understand wholeheartedly that there are many people still waiting for their miracle, who will find any announcement of this kind to be a hard one to take. To those of you, I’m sending you all of my love and hope and strength.

Thank you to everyone who has been in touch to see if he’s here and ask how we are, hopefully we will see you on our travels out and about soon 🩵

I love to use a whole variety of flowers in our wedding designs, for a few reasons. Colour mixes being one, but texture and shape being another! The ruffly alongside pointy Veronica, with the little buds of gypsophelia against the taller delphinium. It makes for such interesting pieces that are far from everyday - they’re so special!

Our last wedding of 2023 was for the lovely Beth and Jimmy at

They opted for a beautiful colour palette of autumnal colours, combining toffee and quicksand roses, with rich burgundy and taupe shades, alongside complimenting dried elements too.

I created these large urn arrangements for the start of the aisle, which really looked sensational in the barn!

Apologies for the radio silence! I’ve been in and out of hospital the last couple of weeks and am currently an inpatient. Baby is doing fine and staying put in my tum, but I’ve been diagnosed with gallstones and choleostasis, along with a myriad of other things.

While I’m in hospital you can still reach me via email and our wedding enquiry form and I’ll reply as soon as I can. March-May wedding couples I will be in touch once I’m home to organise Zoom calls to catch up and get all of the plans for your flowers ironed out before baby arrives. So no need to worry!

Update:

Mam has had her operation yesterday and is home and is in good spirits 🎉 we have a few weeks of waiting for the results to come back and then radiotherapy is planned for mid/late January.

She wanted me to thank each and every person who commented on our last post and who sent such beautiful well wishes and kind words - she has been blown away by it and appreciates it so much. So thank you all.

She’s refusing to be bed bound (shock) and so is up and about and still determined to make the tea 😂 but she’s following all of doctor’s orders and we are making sure she has plenty of rest too. My personal favourite new activity is watching her trying to put on the compression socks 🙈

A huge thank you to everyone who ordered Christmas flowers this year and took them early! I was amazed at how many people were happy to have an earlier delivery, and it kept us occupied until operation day!

We hope you all have a lovely Christmas, however you personally spend it, and thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for your love and support this year. It’s been really bloody hard and I’m not going to lie and say I haven’t struggled for a lot of it, but this little boy inside me is kicking away as I type, reminding me of the pure joy we have to come next year 🩵💙

05/12/2023

Hello everyone,

So we have an announcement to make regarding Christmas flowers and the next few months.

We will be taking very limited orders for Christmas flowers to be delivered on 18th December only. This is because my Mam has been diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS), which is pre invasive cancer.
She is scheduled to have a lumpectomy on 21st December and then radiotherapy to zap it all in January.

Obviously this has been, and continues to be, a really difficult time for us all, but we remain positive as we know it has been caught early and quickly and can be treated. Mam wanted me to pass on a message to say PLEASE go for your routine mammograms! This is why we are so early in this process as it was caught on her routine check.

So I wasn’t going to be taking a “maternity leave” before baby as such, I was just going to still be around to do any orders people needed. However with everything going on, we’ve decided as a family that for mine and baby boy’s health and wellbeing, and for Mam to be able to completely relax and recover, after the flower deliveries on 18th December, I need to take my maternity leave. I’ll still be on hand to do Zoom wedding consultations for new prospective clients, and catch ups for existing ones, and I will still be answering emails etc. But I won’t physically be doing flowers until after the baby is born and I’m recovered. Wedding clients obviously nothing changes from our last communication, as for those of you in the first couple of months after baby’s birth, a fantastic florist is booked in to assist and create for your special days, as previously discussed and so that all remains the same.

I hope you all understand, though I’m sure you do as you’re always so supportive and kind.

I think I’ve covered everything there, but if anyone has any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Truly one of the most genuine and kind couples you could ever meet! Every consultation was so enjoyable and their flowers turned out to be just incredible (if I say so myself!)

The epitome of autumn, with burnt orange, rust, burgundy shades and hints of pampas too.

A day late, but it is 12 years since the opening of The Countryside Florist and WOW, what a 12 years it has been!

The business has changed and evolved over the years, as have we! I’ve learnt so much, about business, about floristry, and mostly about myself! 12 years on and I’m now 30 as opposed to the young 18 year old I was when I opened the doors. So different in so many ways, but my passion for creating the most beautiful flowers possible, remains as strong as ever.

I cannot thank you all enough for following, supporting and encouraging our journey over the years. I always endeavour to do you all proud!

As ever, I am so incredibly thankful for my family support system. Come rain or shine they are always always there to help in whatever way they can, and I honestly could not have got to where I am today without them.

I’m sure this picture has made it to the grid before, but it is just so special to me! The very first day we opened, Grandma came to collect her Christmas wreath and support me. In the years that followed, she would always say “eee pet did you ever think it would be this big?” - I can only imagine what she would say now, all these years on and so much growth and success. I hope she is looking down with so much pride.

So again, thank you all for being here! You are so appreciated ♥️

I honestly never thought I’d be in a position to write this post. I have been through periods of time over the last many months where I’ve wondered if it would ever happen for us. For as long as I can remember I have yearned for a child, and since being with Jonathan that has only grown into a stronger wish.

After going through the heartache of a miscarriage in April, I can hardly believe that we are so lucky to announce that I am pregnant with a healthy baby BOY, due in March 2024 🩵🩵

It has been a rollercoaster few months of emotions, but so far everything is looking as good as can be and so we can only keep on hoping and feeling positive.

I worry about him in there every single day 🙈 but Jonathan has reminded me that even when he’s here, the worrying will be with us forever so I can just get used to it 😂

All wedding clients have been informed and plans of action put into place! Thank you all so much for your support and well wishes! 🩵

Our Story

Hi there! Thank you for visiting us. I am Rebecca Walker – an experienced and enthusiastic florist, with a passion for creating breath-taking florals, in all manner of shapes, sizes and designs. Along with my Mother (my "Mam", we are Northern!) Linda, we make up The Countryside Florist..here is a little of our story...

In 2011, just one month after qualifying as a florist, and at the tender age of 18, I took a leap of faith and opened my very own flower shop. The first year was incredible, we built a customer base which was loyal and vast, and I learnt so much. Over the years that followed, the business grew and grew, and we became too cramped in my little shop. I took another huge step, and purchased my very own building, the new home for my not so "little" shop - just a couple of doors down from where we first began.

Fast forward some challenging and fantastic years later, and here we are! I have taken my third (and all of the other ones in between) massive step, and have transformed the business. We are now operating (in the same High Street premises) as a Wedding and Events Floral Studio. Over the years I have built a portfolio of over 400 weddings, a number which is ever increasing. I have built a reputation for my wedding work which I could only have dreamed of. I love the buzz of handing a bouquet to a blushing bride, and seeing her reaction to what I have created - that is true job satisfaction!

We create eye-catching and beautiful florals, using only the freshest flowers available, for Weddings and Events all around the country, along with a comprehensive corporate service. We also offer a Funeral Flower service, in and around Teesside, as well as floral bouquets and arrangements for the peak seasons (Christmas, Valentine's and Mother's Day) on a pre-order basis.
