Tulip time again! We only use our tulips for one season (they decline in quality, can accumulate soil borne diseases and take up space if left), so if we want tulips, we have to plant tulips! We have about 4500 for this season, so although the soil hasn’t really cooled enough, we need to get started. We have a busy couple of months coming up, so best get planting!

It’s time! On a rather grey day, today seemed like the perfect day to bust out our beautiful, joyful Christmas decorations. Baubles, stars and hearts; all perfect for the Christmas tree, but I am definitely tempted to find a year-round home for some, too!

The coastal road to Abbotsbury from Bridport is still fully open, despite the roadwork signs suggesting you need to take diversions. Whilst the Portesham to Weymouth roadworks take place over the next month, there is a free bus service from Bridport to Abbotsbury - the T53. So why not enjoy the wonderful coastal road (arguably one of the most scenic roads in the UK!) and come to Abbotsbury for the day. Coffee, lunch or tea and enjoy the shops, studios and at Abbey Farm, Abbotsbury as well as the other galleries and businesses in the village.

Check the Abbey Farm website for opening times of each of the businesses: www.abbeyfarmabbotsbury.co.uk

This is our most asked about flower today - Dahlia ‘Pooh’! I used to hate it as it is so clashy, but now I love it for the exact same reason.

Conventional wisdom is that open faced dahlias like this don’t last as cut flowers - according to Anna of that isn’t true. As long as you cut it when the middle yellow is still tight and shiny (see pic 2), it will be fine. Once it is fluffy, the bees have got to it (see pic 3) so it won’t last. The bees absolutely love these open ones, so it’s nice to have some in the garden, and Pooh is an absolute star, with tall, straight stems that flower for months.

As an added bonus, you can also do the very niche ‘oh no, there’s a Pooh on the floor’ prank!
