Woodlands Cider Press 2022
Apple juices were flowing last Saturday
We’ve had a fantastic Village Cider Press on Saturday. The weather held, and we managed to produce over 250 litres of juice!!! An amazing result for the first time.
The event would not have been as much fun without everybody who came and helped in its planning/ running. Therefore, a huge thank you to:
- Paul, Iain, Alex, Sue, Rosemary, Jo, Joan, Cranborne Chase Cider and everybody else who brought apples for ensuring that we had enough to press
- Alex, Lou, Mark, Russ, Rupert, Stephen, Dan and Will for setting up and manning the cider presses.
- Jo Folkes, Gitta and Alison for running the kitchen with military precision and friendly smiles.
- Our relentless team of apple choppers, kept on the straight and narrow by Lucy, Sue and Lou.
- Iain for organising food supplies, making a vat of potato & leek soup, and rallying everybody to finish the evening with fire baked potatoes.
- Rosemary for the mouth-watering carrot and lentil soup
- Sue, Lou and Gitta for the delicious soda bread rolls.
- Sue, Lou, Jenny, Peter and Iain’s mother-in-law for the decadent apple deserts.
- Alex for his Garden Scrumpy that was surprisingly good 😉
- Sue and Lou for the 1st Woodlands Apple Games. A special thank you to Will for saving them by hunting down more apples, after our reserves were decimated by the overly competitive boys.
- Amelia and Heather for winning the Apple Bowling and Longest Apple Peel (1,37m!!!) competitions respectively.
- Rosemary, Steven and Genny for spoiling us with their fiddle, accordion and drum performance. What a treat it was!
- The cleaning up crew: Alex, Joan, Iain, Mark and Rupert
- Paul for taking away our apple mush to feed some local pigs (hopefully, pictures of happy pigs to follow).
We would also like to thank our sponsors:
- Alan Froud Ltd for their generous donation and delivery of potatoes
- The Book And Bucket Cheese Company, for providing us with their scrumptious cheese at trade
Bread making at Woodlands Village Hall
Bread making at Woodlands Village Hall Dorset
We’ve had a great afternoon baking soda and gluten free bread for the Cider Press on Saturday. The smell was so comforting, the taste absolutely delicious. We can’t wait to have it with a large dollop of butter and a hot mug of soup.

Apples for the press
Less than a week left to the Village Cider Press!
We’ve been busy collecting apples over the weekend and have plenty for everybody to try their hand at pressing and to take away the delicious apple juice with them.
We’ve also got food prepared, games planned out and live music lined up.
A reminder of what to bring:
- Appropriate clothes and footwear. There is a high likelihood of rain on the day. We will have gazebos set up, so will be working under a cover. However, there will still be a lot of walking to and fro, so please wear something waterproof.
- Mugs for your fresh/ mulled juice/ cider
Plastic containers to poor your juice in. If you want to freeze some juice, then consider buying a few of these bags, they flat pack nicely in a fridge: Blanketswarm 5 Pack 5 L Wine Purse Replacement Bags,Refillable Wine Replacement Storage Pouch with Spout BPA Free for Picnic Camping Hiking : Amazon.co.uk: Home & Kitchen.
- Camping chairs, if you want to just relax, sip your juice/cider and watch the activity unfold around you.
- Your own drinks, if you’d rather have something other than cider.
We are looking forward to seeing you soon.
