Some highlights:
• Burrata with marinated herbed cherry tomatoes
• Balsamic, black garlic and rosemary black angus bavette
• Dry aged bone-in rib eye with chimichurri
• Sticky Chinese 5-spice chicken wings with bbq sauce
• Arugula and shaved Parmesan salad
• Charred cabbage with white truffle oil
• Japanese tomato salad
• Cheese board with honeycomb

Washed down all the food with some sumptuous wines to throughly enjoy and cherish the fleeting moments. Moments which we call life.

Last Saturdays soirée was a blast with some delicious consequences.

Played tribute to the Mediterranean:
* Obsiblue prawn, avocado and guava tartare with ikura
* Sumac, coriander and black garlic tiger prawns
* Seven spice sumac baby lamb cutlets with homemade zhoug
* Salt crusted barramundi with salsa verde
* Moroccan chicken with preserved lemons and olives (by Sebastian)
* Cardamon chicken rice with caramelised onions (Ottolenghi inspired)
* Insalata verde (Via Carota inspired)
* Assortment of cheeses, pears and crackers as a finale (thanks Carol)

Amazing feast, amazing people. Plenty of stories shared and some hefty debates – all interspersed with some hearty laughter.

George Town, Penang. A UNESCO World Heritage Site that is essentially a melting pot of different cultures, races and religions imbued with a rich, colourful history.

Once an important Straits of Malacca trading hub, the city is known for its British colonial buildings, Chinese shophouses, mosques, street art and some of the best street food in the world.

Due to the intermingling of the various ethnicities and religions that arrived on its shores, George Town acquired a large eclectic assortment of colonial and Asian architectural styles. It also gained a reputation as Malaysia's gastronomic capital for its distinct and ubiquitous street food.

Some worthy mentions: the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion (he’s dubbed to be the “Rockefeller of the east”) where the mahjong scene from Crazy Rich Asians was shot, Kek Lok Si temple (largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia), the E&O heritage hotel founded by the Sarkies brothers (who also founded Raffles in Singapore and the Strand in Ragoon), the ceaseless selection of cakes at China House, and possibly the best hokkein prawn mee you will have in your life on bridge street.

Come to Penang curious and hungry with a comfortable pair of walking shoes. Against the backdrop of all the heritage houses, it is best to meander your way through the intricate alleyways with all the eclectic street murals to work off all the calories you will unavoidably consume.

Obsiblue prawn and avocado tartare.

The obsiblue prawns are a rare, stunningly blue-hued species raised in New Caledonia. They naturally take on the color of the pristine turquoise waters where they are farmed.

These sashimi grade prawns are farmed in the largest lagoon in the world, protected for its unique wildlife, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Taste wise, their flesh is slightly sweet and tender that firms up when cooked.

Missing the 🍳 I know but ran out of 🥚 at the moment.

I made mine with minced pork but feel free to use chicken or beef too. Remember to finish it off with Thai basil for authenticity.

Personally, I also like to add a dash of lime to bring out the flavours more.

Hamachi grapefruit crudo with red kampot peppercorn.

Thinly sliced yellowtail with avocado, jalapeño and a light drizzle of grapefruit juice and olive oil. Bless with a final dusting of red kampot pepper, a pinch of fleur de sel and a light zing of grapefruit zest.

Each bite is melt-in-your-mouth tender with lingering notes of citrus and a faint kick from the jalapeño.

Less spicy than its black counterpart, the sprinkling of freshly grated red kampot pepper imparts subtle and sweet floral notes of red fruit, dates and honey.

Whipped up a casual Sunday feast for wine aficionados.

• Freshly shucked oysters (thanks Chris for being the designated shucker - you’re a fast learner indeed 😜)
• Boquerones with green olives
• Tsar cut smoked salmon with whipped truffle ricotta
• Hand cut classic beef tartare with lightly salted potato crisps
• Otoro avocado tartare with a yuzu lime soy dressing
• Spicy vodka rigatoni (finally put my Calabrian chilis I got in nyc to good use (can’t find them here whole)).
• Grass fed tomahawk on the grill with crispy roasted duck fat rosemary potatoes.
• Freshly baked madeleines (citrus and valrhona chocolate flavour) by Cindy.

The umami, savoury punch from the miso glaze runs deep (and so does my stomach). It is balanced against its delicate sweetness and finished with a lingering, light yuzu note.
