*Government announces Residential Sports Academies for Jammu and Kashmir divisions.*

In a significant move to promote Sports, Education and Culture among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan today announced setting up of Residential Sports Academies in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions soon.

Advisor Khan passed the directions during a meeting held with officers and officials of JK Sports Council and Department of Youth, Services and Sports (YSS) here.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Alok Kumar; Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull besides other officers of the department.

Advisor Farooq Khan said that main focus of these academies would be to encourage sports and inculcate active lifestyle among youth besides lifting the graph of not only J&K's participation at National and International level but also uplift the performance of the regional players in these events.

The Advisor said that these academies would be open to kids from 7th standard onwards.

It was decided in the meeting that the main focus of Residential Sports Academy, Kashmir will be on Football while as that of Jammu will be on Hockey.

Moreover, it was also mentioned that a major sports talent hunt would be organized to tap the talent from every nook and corner of the region.

Advisor Khan also emphasised that players from rural areas and underprivileged children shall be given due opportunity to showcase their talent.

Earlier, the Advisor took review of the existing sports infrastructure in the Union Territory and checked on the progress of ongoing sports infrastructure projects.
