The J&K Sports Society registered under the Societies Registration Act IV of S. 1998 came into existence in 1959 with its Governing body viz. J&K Sports Council constituted vide Govt Order No.: 390 of 1959 dt: 10-08-1959 with a strength of 22 as founder members with a sole aim to promote & propagate sports across J&K. The constitution of the Council was approved on 27th June 1960. Thereafter the

J&K Sports Council was re-constituted from time to time with the Honble Chief Minister as President & Honble Minister for Youth Services & Sports as Vice President. Governor and Honble Advisor, I/C Youth Services & Sports Department are functioning as President and Vice President respectively. Other Members are also nominated by the Govt as per provisions of the constitution. The J&K Sports Council is an autonomous body functioning as per its constitution under the Administrative control of Department of Youth Services & Sports. The strength of Sports Council members was raised from 23 to 25 in September 1992. Consequent upon the revision of the constitution on 23rd April 2001, the number of members was increased from 23 to 29 with a provision of 2 provincial Joint Secretaries. During 2017 the revision of constitution took place on 06.09.2017. Under the revised constitution the strength of members was raised upto 31. The Chief Accounts Officer on deputation from Finance Department shall function as Treasurer in J&K Sports Council. The Chief Accounts Officer (Treasurer) is functioning as Drawing & Disbursing Officer of J&K Sports Council and operating upon the Bank Accounts of the J&K Sports Council with the concurrence of the Secretary, J&K Sports Council. As a measure to streamline the functioning of J&K Sports Council in a transparent & responsive manner, the revision of Constitution again took place on 12.06.2020. As per the revised constitution the strength of members has been reduced to 15 members including President & Vice President. The revised constitution provides posting of Secretary & Joint Secretaries on deputation basis from the Govt. The revised constitution also provides Drawing & Disbursing Powers to Joint Secretaries and Executive Engineers in the Council at Divisional level. The main objectives/functions of the J&K Sports Council are:-
To promote sports activities in the J&K among the student & non-student youth. To provide sports infrastructure in various parts of the J&K. To regulate activities of recognized Sports Associations and to provide financial assistance to them for carrying out sports activities at various levels. To provide specific coaching to promising sportspersons of the J&K. To provide all assistance to sportspersons for excellence in sports at different levels. To advise the Govt in matters relating to promotion of sports & sportspersons of the J&K.

JKSC Football Academy chosen for Historic AIFF Blue Cubs Development Center Initiative; won AIFF's Best Grassroots Center Award.

J&K Sports Council Football Academy has been chosen for the esteemed AIFF Blue Cubs Development Center initiative and has been recognized by the All India Football Federation as the Best Grassroots Center 2023–24. This is a historic moment first of its kind for our region and a big step in developing football talent at the grassroots level.

AIFF Blue Cubs Development Centre strives to nurture young footballers, giving them with professional training and exposure from an early age. Undoubtedly, this project will benefit the UT by producing a new generation of talented football players and raising the bar for the sport in Jammu & Kashmir.

Established in 2017, the J&K Sports Council Football Academy has produced players for ISL & I-League Teams every year. In addition 13 players have represented Indian National Teams in various age groups. Among them were Saahil Khurshid, Jehangir, Muheet Shabir, Abdul Salha, Rishi Rajput, Sajjad Hussain, Suhail Ahmad, and many others. The game of football in J&K has been reviewed with significant assistance from the academy. Currently, more than 1500 aspiring players receive football coaching every day from the 12 Khelo India Football Centers and 13 JKSC Academy District Units spread throughout J&K. Toddlers also receive attention towards the game in large numbers in JKSC Football School at Srinagar and Jammu.

The government's investment in sports facilities and the platform it has built for the players over the years have resulted in the honors the JKSC has been bestowed with today. Besides, JKSC coaches are also performing well at both the national and international levels in addition to the players' success in the international arena.

The academy's coaches, staff, and trainees were warmly praised for accomplishing this remarkable achievement by Secretary YSS Sh. Sarmad Hafeez and Secretary JKSC Nuzhat Gul. Sports in J&K have flourished under the directions of Hon'ble LG J&K Sh. Manoj Sinha, who also happens to be the President of JKSC, said Secretary YSS.

Since football is the most popular sport in the region, with these kinds of initiatives we aim to see our more and more footballers making country proud in the future, Secretary JKSC stated.

Popularizing the sport of Gymnastics.
JKSC to hold series of camps and competitions.

Over the years, notable accomplishments in gymnastics have been made possible by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council. Thanks to the Government of J&K for providing state-of-the-art gymnastics facilities the Jammu and Kashmir government established at M A Stadium. Gymnasts' medal tallies have increased yearly at both the national and international levels.

In 2018, the J&K Sports Council launched the Gymnastics Academy in Jammu. Based on J&K gymnasts' achievements in the Khelo India Games and other national championships, this training center was chosen as a recognized Rhythmic Gymnastics Academy by the Sports Authority of India (the only Rhythmic Gymnastics Academy in India). Later in 2020, this academy was outfitted with world class gymnastics apparatuses and equipment, enabling J&K gymnasts to perform better in both national and international competitions and win various awards for J&K..

With the help of these state-of-the-art facilities, J&K gymnasts have represented country in major international competitions such as the Asian Championships, World Cups, and Commonwealth Games. Ms. Muskan Rana and Ms. Bavleen Kaur, both Academy trainees, have won gold for J&K and the Best Gymnasts of India titles in the Khelo India Games 2021 and 2022. The Junior National Team Championship was won by Muskan Rana, Manya, Vabhavi Sharma, and Jagriti Thakur. In both national and international competitions, such as the World and Asian Championships, J&K gymnasts have improved, won numerous medals, and displayed outstanding performance.

Since 2021, J&K has yielded incredibly successful results in gymnastics. Over the last three years, 13 gymnasts have competed for their country in international competitions and have won almost 80 medals, including 25 gold, 34 silver, and 21 bronze at national games and other major championships. These successes demonstrate the commitment of the athletes and their coaches supported by JKSC.

Secretary JKSC Ms. Nuzhat Gul intends to open a professional gymnastics academy center at Gindun Rajbagh Srinagar, following the pattern of the gymnastics academy center in Jammu, with the objective of promoting gymnastics as a major sport in the Kashmir region. The center will feature world class facilities for the athletes. According to Ms. Nuzhat Gul, the aim is to attract attention of aspiring athletes from the Kashmir region who want to pursue gymnastics professionally and take advantage of the Sports Policy benefits, which include financial awards, admissions in professional colleges under sports quotas, job prospects under SO12, and much more. In an endeavor of this kind, JKSC, with the assistance of Manish Gupta, a well-known gymnastics coach, has organized a summer coaching camp at SKISC Srinagar. At first, talent scouting and camps will be organised to impart gymnastics coaching in the Kashmir division followed by inhouse competitions. Parents and kids are responding reasonably well to the coaching camp that is being organized currently. Over the next few months, more such camps will be conducted in both North and South Kashmir.

J&K Sports Council's departmental cricket tournament continues.
-Match 6th fell into the kitty of the DG Accounts and Treasuries department-.

Today at TRC Cricket Ground, Dalgate Srinagar, 6th match of the recently commenced departmental cricket tournament was played between the Secretary eleven and DG Accounts and Treasuries department.
After winning the toss, Secretary Eleven decided to bat first and piled up 155 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Abid Nabi Dilawar, waris, Arvind, and Harish were the top scorers.
Chasing the target of 156 runs, The DG Accounts and Treasuries department struggles in the first overs and lost 5 wickets in the early overs of the inning. Later a partnership was built between Imtiyaz Ahmad and Amit pandita in which Imtiyaz contributed 81 runs and Amit 29 runs which resulted in the match falling into the kitty of the DG Accounts and Treasuries department and won the match by 5 wickets.
Imtiyaz Ahmad of DG Accounts and Treasuries departmental team was declared as Man of the Match for his brilliant performance scored 81 which included of 8 fours and 3 sixes and bagged a wicket.
The tournament has been organized for the Government Employees of J&K in the Kashmir division in the first phase in which 13 departments are taking part.
The main aim of conducting the departmental tournaments is to emphasize the importance of sports and relieving professionals of stress, related to their job profiles.
