YES! Celebrating for the second time the honor of being appointed as holder of a Jean Monnet Chair ad personam: " European Supranational Democracy: a Lab for the World"
😍🥳
The previous one was about the European democratic supranational model, this one - a clear follow-up - is about Europe promoting worldwide the values of democracy, multilateralism and supranationality 🌍 🌎 🌏

As it happens, I don't need to change the name of the page!

I hope that all those who supported the chair, joined the initiatives, and share the values it promotes will join me in celebrating and getting ready for other three exciting years of academic adventures!

"The European Union has an important global role to play as a lab for democratic governance over the national dimension – with a successful story of making former enemies become strong partners – as well as a model set for other regional integration organizations. Furthermore, the EU is a crucial actor in global governance, proving itself effective in promoting multilateral and collaborative solutions in key areas such as climate policy and healthcare. The Union has proved itself successful in the biggest experiment ever of deliberative democracy - the Conference on the Future of Europe - and it is already promoting this democratic procedure on a bigger scale as on January 17, the European Commission and the Government of Ireland launched a "Deliberative Democracy Cohort" as a multi-stakeholder group in the Summit for Democracy hosted by the US. Unfortunately, European citizens are often unaware of the prominent role of the EU as a leading model for regional integration as well as a promoter of better global governance. The aim of this Chair is to allow Law students in the International and European Law Curriculum as well as Master students in Science for International Cooperation and Master students in Euro-Mediterranean Management of Migration Policies to get such awareness and to build their future careers accordingly. The proposed Chair will deal with a topic of increasing importance, which is the external projection of the European democratic model and the promotion of European values worldwide. It is grounded on the notion that Europe is a lab for the world being the only democracy built over and beyond national borders and constantly experimenting and improving. The Chair will spread information on EU External Relations and its role in promoting EU values in the world through events tailored to encourage interaction among students/scholars, civil society, stakeholders, and public officers at all levels."

Today is Europe Day, the day in which we remember the Schuman Declaration of 9 May 1950 which started the entire process of European integration. My Brussels friends also call this day Saint Schuman. In reality, it should be Saint Monnet because Jean Monnet was the inspirer and author of that historic document.
What better occasion to remember it than with a new Declaration, written in the same place where the first one was written - at the Maison Jean Monnet - 73 years later - by a group of professors and scholars passionate about democracy together with a group of highly motivated Unisalento students?
What better time to reinvent supranational democracy than in a moment of crisis of democracy and threat to peace?

Oggi è la Festa dell'Europa, il giorno in cui si ricorda la Dichiarazione Schuman del 9 maggio 1950 che ha dato il via all'intero processo di integrazione europea. I miei amici bruxelloises chiamano questa giornata anche San Schuman. In realtà dovrebbe essere San Monnet perché è stato jean Monnet l'ispiratore e l'autore di quello storico documento.
Quale migliore occasione per ricordarlo che non con una nuova Dichiarazione, scritta nella stessa sede in cui è stata scritta la prima - presso la Maison Jean Monnet - 73 anni dopo, da un gruppo di professori e studiosi appassionati di democrazia insieme ad un gruppo di motivatissimi studenti di Unisalento?
Quale miglior momento per reinventare la democrazia sovranazionale, se non in un momento di crisi della democrazia e di minaccia alla pace?
