A Festival of Light & Sound - Wavetrails is an annual multi-day festival of collaborative sound, performance and visual art collaborations.

This Thursday and Friday, Wavetrails Festival will bring a new and unique audio visual experience to Albuquerque with an incredible lineup of musicians, visual artists, dancers and more.

The Inaugural Wavetrails Festival will take place October 17th & 18th at FUSION | The Cell in downtown Albuquerque. The Festival will include two nights of incredible performances and visual art, including dance, live instrumentation, and an immersive sound and holographic visual experience.

Wavetrails is an experimental music and visual festival highlighting local and national musicians collaborating with visual artists through a unique audio/visual stage experience. A holographic stage will house musicians of all types, artists, dancers, and more while surrounding them with quadraphonic sound and eye-opening imagery.

As the center piece of the first set this Friday at the inaugural Wavetrails Festival, Meridian Alpha performs a theatrical atmospheric piece that will be sure to take listeners to another dimension.

To paraphrase a recent listener, Meridian Alpha makes "soundtracks to
the coolest Sci-Fi film I have yet to see". Space music, floating ambient
clouds, and unknown alien landscapes are all part of the Meridian Alpha
experience. Meridian Alpha is a compositional project from James Coker,
the the author of the sofware sequencing program called Numerology, and
the designer of the Five12 Vector Sequencer.

Capping off the final night of the Wavetrails Festival, will get people dancing with a solid fast moving set, sure to get the crowd moving.

SlowRolla is an American producer from Albuquerque, New Mexico, carving a unique niche in the underground music scene with his signature 160 bpm style. He draws influences from footwork, techno, jungle, and breaks. He has been featured and globally recognized by DJs showcasing his tracks on a variety of renowned platforms and Events.

Tom Djill caps off the first set of incredible performances on Day 2 of the inaugural Wavetrails Festival. Performing a piece centered on the 'poetics of chaos', Tom's eclectic style will round out the first offering on Friday, Oct. 18th.

Tom Djll studied electronic music with Stephen Scott at the Colorado College, working with the EMS Synthi 100. In 1978–79 Djll studied at the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, NY, with Roscoe Mitchell, Anthony Braxton, Wadada Leo Smith, George Lewis, Karl Berger and others. He spent the years 1981-1993 working with the Serge Modular Music System (published work MUTOOTATOR, 1992); Deep Listening work with Pauline Oliveros, 1991. At the Mills College Contemporary Music Center Djll 1993-95, developed a personal trumpet language alongside electronic and microtonal studies. Further developments with his Bay Area band GROSSE ABFAHRT were undertaken from 1999 – 2016, released on the Emanem, Creative Sources, and Setola di Maiale labels. Beginning in 2012, Djll gradually re-introduced electronics into his sound-set, concentrating on analog systems and electroacoustic interfaces. Currently Djll concentrates on presenting and explaining chaotic sound-worlds, inspired by the work of the late master instrument designer Rob Hordijk. Recent collaborations with Gino Robair, Rova Saxophone Quartet, William Winant, Fred Frith and EUPHOTIC with Cheryl Leonard and Bryan Day.

Performing an electrifying performance titled F.E.A.R., with the holographic stage as her collaborator, Erin Meadors kicks off the first night of the Wavetrails Festival on Thursday, October 17th

While Erin has never been formally trained in dance she has always loved to move in response to the music in her life. Self-taught and eager to express her art she started training dance seriously in college. Since then she has been carefully honing her craft to the level that you will see during Wavetrails. As a professional lighting designer and choreographer this project proved to be an exciting collaboration joining high tech visual work with raw movement of the body.

Alias Zone is the “zen master alter ego” of Chris Meyer of LearningModular.com. Each composition starts with a sound that catches Chris’ ear: an experiment on his modular synthesizers, a particular rhythmic pattern, a field recording, or even something as simple as a Tibetan bowl being struck. From this core, he builds stories and entire worlds by researching and retelling the stories behind those sounds, weaving in layers of complimentary textures as he conjures his own narrative to this “alias” or alternate reality.

Musically, modular synthesis is at the core of each new Alias Zone composition. However, Chris is unafraid to blend in struck & plucked arpeggios, ambient soundscapes, ethnic rhythms & percussion, and “found” spoken word in different languages as part of his journey creating this uniquely emotional, impressionistic electronic music.

Wavetrails Festival is excited to present Albuquerque's Video Wizards as one of the visual artists to light up the holographic cube stage!

The Video Wizards (Scotty Leonard and Aaron Mancha) are an eclectic electronic art duo specializing in marrying live analog and digital video techniques. The Video Wizards have created immersive multimedia installations in galleries around Albuquerque, as well as live visuals for concerts and new media arts exhibitions.

You can check out work by the video wizards on both nights of the Wavetrails Festival, making use of the 4-sided holographic stage for an energetic and exciting audio-visual collaboration.

Hailing from Denver, Eph adds some incredible energy to the Wavetrails Festival on Friday, Oct. 18th.

Eph is a Denver-based sonic alchemist, crafting an atmospheric blend of techno, house, electro, IDM, and psychedelia aimed squarely at the dancefloor. A formally trained guitarist, Eph brings a tactile, hands-on approach to his live set, weaving dynamic, improvisational journeys with hardware synthesizers, drum machines, and samplers, ensuring each performance pulses with organic energy.

Among the Wavetrails Festival's many talented musicians and artists, David Forlano and Barry Chabala are the only duet of the festival, collaborating on an incredible soundscape to launch day two of the Festival. Wavetrails Festival is an official event of the Rising High Arts Festival.

David Forlano is a multi-disciplinary performance artist and visual artist. His performance and sound work began in Philadelphia, notably teaming with percussionist Toshi Makihara on many performances supporting dance and theater as well as their own collaborations in free improvisation. Relocating to Santa Fe in 2005 he took a 10 year break from performance followed by a renewed passion for collaboration in performance and sound.

Guitarist, improvisor & composer, Barry Chabala picked up a
guitar at the age of 5 and began a musical journey that has gone many places.
Sparked by The Beatles & The Stones, which lead to Led Zeppelin which lead to
Jethro Tull, Yes & Genesis, which lead to Pat Metheny, Alan Holdsworth & Bill
Frisell, which lead to Derek Bailey, which lead to Michael Pisaro which lead to.... The goal always... to blend it ALL into a personal, creative voice.

Barry has presented lectures on improvisation & graphic scores for Bowerbird of
Philadelphia, performed & recorded numerous compositions from the Wandelweiser Collective throughout the United States and has recorded and collaborated with the likes of Michael Pisaro, Lance Austin Olsen, Lee Noyes & Clara Byom for labels such as Ftarri, Confront, Gravity Wave, Another Timbre, Erstwhile, & his own imprint Roeba Recordings.

Keely Mackey-Gonzales (Celloquacious), is the Creative Director of Amused LLC, an international multi award-winning cellist and composer, and an interdisciplinary artist, producer and educator. Drawing upon four decades of classical training, and performing across multiple genres, Celloquacious plays acoustic and electric cello while utilizing live looping and effects, sounding like a virtual cello orchestra. Keely’s music, inspired by Deep-Time in Nature and aligning with the Five Sacred Elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Ether), is healing, expansive and emotive music conjuring themes from “futuristic-antiquity” and evoking “images of sound” from her listeners. Additionally, she incorporates her photography and videography into her ritualistic performances, while collaborating with artists across multiple disciplines.

Keely joins an incredible lineup on Thursday, Oct 17th - followed by a night of musical exploration and dancing on Friday, Oct. 18th.
