Prep Your Space

Take care to avoid any cold-weather mishaps when you make arrangements for your reception space.
•Have a place for all your guests to put their coats and scarves. For parties of 50 or more, you'll most likely need to hire a coat-check attendant to take care of your guests as they enter and exit throughout the evening.
•At the entrance to the reception, make sure there's a proper all-weather mat for guests to wipe their shoes on. This is especially important if the sidewalks are slushy.
•Choose a reception venue that has plenty of space between the door to the outside and the reception room. That way, you'll keep the indoor environment toasty and warm. If your reception will take place in a tent, arrange for an extra tent layer and double-door tent to create an entryway and keep out the cold air.
•If you're having a tented wedding, definitely make sure you order heat lamps. Place them around the room -- one per ten guests should be enough.

Winter is the season to use lots of layers. This year, the hottest reception styles involve layering luxe textures like velvet table linens or sequin overlays. If that’s too much for your tables, use texture in smaller doses--think a velvet napkin wrap or embroidered velvet chair back.
Also big?
Woodland motifs like deer, antlers or branches make for an amazing centerpiece, especially when paired with a classic evergreen wreath, or even soft, dusty rose and ivory flower centerpieces.

Birthday in a Bag

Party in a Bag…for a needy child

That’s right, not everybody gets a birthday party. Many families have financial limitations which is why I nearly jumped out of my seat when I read this next idea over on my friend Courtney DeFeo’s blog. Her guest writer Deanne, shared the concept of a Birthday Bag (here).

Let your children help plan a birthday party for a child who otherwise wouldn’t have one. Let them pick out cake mix, iciing, plates, table clothes, candles, party favors and balloons. Make a special birthday card and even throw in a Target gift card. Then donate the bag. This is an idea I hope spreads and spreads. Thank you Courtney and Deanne.
