Ambience can be created in a variety of ways but there is no better way, IMHO, than with music and lighting.

Inspired by a venue in San Diego, we hired this amazing flamenco guitarist (whose guitar unintentionally matched the facade) to play during a private dinner reception, during the longest sunset possibly ever. It was the perfect tone, volume and chord during dinner conversations, with the perfect setting. 🌅 💃🏽🖤

An interactive audience is the best audience! What techniques do you use to get your attendees engaged?

Having worked with a wide array of introverts at numerous tech events I can tell you it’s … easy!

✅ It starts with the check-in table, a place where you set the tone for the event by being friendly, direct and hospitable. You make them feel seen and if they don’t want to feel seen you make them feel safe (usually by directing them to the warm coffee and great food 🥞🥓☕️).

😅 Also, humor. It’s a great way to break down walls! Tell them, “be sure to probe the speaker, we like to challenge the experts 😉.” Depending on their reaction, you can laugh and say, “but seriously… probe the speaker please 😏” or “just kidding, enjoy 💁🏽‍♀️” either way you have lightened the mood and therefore, the atmosphere.

👥 Next, it’s important to keep an open dialogue with your speaker about expectations. Encourage each presenter to gently “probe” the audience with questions, call on people you know, or those you just had a discussion with. Let the audience know that they are not just being spoken at but with.

All this really keeps the event humming along so nicely! 👌🏽

Two things here… 1.) I’ve always loved this saying and it’s true that a terrific event will ensure you “be where your feet are.” When an event is engaging, relatable and fun ( ) then you are more likely to be “present” and mindful about your interactions. You can enjoy where you are without worrying about outside factors. 😌Hummmm take it all in!

2.) never underestimate what happens under your feet. A beautiful floor can make a drab room fab 👌🏽

Pride of engagement! There are many reasons why events are a passion, but the number one reason for HUMM is creating connections and seeing them engaging with each other. There’s nothing better than seeing your guests mingle and laugh and let down their walls. This is where the good stuff happens.
