Over the last few years of wedding consultations and premarital counseling sessions, I have come across a variety of different types of love and ideas of marriage.

Some marry for companionship, financial support, procreation, the gram 😂 etc. But there are only a few that truly marry for love.

And not just the romantic goggly eyed love. But the love that requires real work...and that level of hard work and determination is simply unmatched!

People say love shouldn’t be hard. And to those I say “who lied to you?!” Yall remember in when Daphne said “I burn for you” 😍 well in love, that flame will rise and fall often. As marrieds, it’s your job to kindle the fire so it doesn’t die out. That’s work right?

Sometimes the darn thing just won’t stay lit 🤣 might have to get some lighter fluid for that or fresh wood. Sometimes it keeps a low and slow burn and the work seems effortless. Sometimes the fire rages and becomes out of control and we may need to extinguish it for safety reasons😫Whatever the status of your fire...know that only true love requires work.

✨ Story Time ✨

I remember my first year of officiating weddings…it was an absolute world wind. I officiated 49 weddings but it all seemed like a blur. I remember some of the couples but if I saw them today, I would struggle to remember their names or their stories (charge it to my head and not my heart). And although the money was definitely good 😅 the feeling (or lack thereof) was just off. Realizing this, I decided that I wanted a deeper and more meaningful relationship with my couples.

So, I decided to check my intentions. I looked deeper into my purpose and what God allowed and called me to do. It was then when He reminded me of a dream and a vision he shared with me back in 2010 (when I was living in sin and my life was a 🥵 mess). He told me I would be counseling couples and gave the vision of me as a wedding officiant. I completely ignored it though 🙃 because again, I was a whole hot mess.

The circumstances that led me to this 👆🏾 was nothing but God. He turned my life around and pointed me in the direction I should go. I’m not perfect by any means and if you see me in the streets (cause I be in the streetssss 🥹) remember that I am still human. But when I sit with you in marriage coaching and stand beside you at the altar, know that this is a God thing. It’s not a me thing. In those moments, it’s him calling me to share my story and wisdom with you (cause chillleee my stories be wild! And y’all know it 🤣). It’s God that allows us to stand together at the altar whether you’re religious or not.

There are many of us in this industry that’s just here for the money and although we all need it, marriage is bigger than the wedding and much more important than the money. As we navigate the struggles of this world, it’s important to keep your intentions pure to the best of your ability.

Let’s not cheapen this experience. Okay das it 😌

If the average couple participates in at least ONE premarital education class, session, or course…they have a 30% chance of being or staying in a healthy and happy (not perfect) relationship.

PSA: As a pro wedding officiant, I love to greet the guest to lay the ground rules before the ceremony and they typically go like this:

1. Don’t be taking pictures until I tell you to. These people paid an obscene amount of money for a professional to do it so please, try to be fully present for the next 20min of your life

2. Don’t be actin up. If you are here for any other reason than to celebrate my couple and their love, we will have you removed. (This is also why I love working with planners. They moonlight as security sometimes 😆)

That’s typically it unless my couple asks me to add anything else 🤭

A few weeks before their big day, I met with Calli and Josh for their relationship hour and discovered Calli was a little more than stressed about wedding things. Y’all know I’m serious about my couples so we instantly went into discovery mode and began to break down her stress points. Calli said “I’m kinda bummed the venue won’t let me have alpacas”… so I said “They don’t own the sidewalks. They can’t tell you what to do there” 🤭

Y’all!!! Her man her man her man had them 🦙 🦙 from waiting on the sidewalks for her after the ceremony 😍 And now this, is my favorite photo from their gallery!

Weeks leading up to the wedding day can be beyond stressful…be sure to have an entire TEAM of people that will hear you, support you, and love you to the moon and back! And if you don’t have a good team, call me 😏

My go to wedding attire: Dress to Impress!

When it comes to weddings, dressing appropriately is a sign of respect for the couple’s special day. Whether you’re a wedding vendor or a guest, here are some style tips to ensure you look your best:

1️⃣ **For Guests**:
- Opt for classy/elegant vibes dress (preferably with undergarments we’ll talk about that in another post 😆)
- Choose suits or tuxedos

2️⃣ **For Vendors**:
- Dress professionally to match the formality of the event.
- Consider wearing attire that aligns with your role…stylish attire is always a good call. Never tennis shoes (and you know which ones I’m talking about) and t-shirts/shorts. Like ever.

Dear Newly Engaged,

What an exciting time this is for you! As you start to tell your friends and family about your recent decision to marry the love of your life, the first responses you’ll hear is “when’s the big day?” Or “where will the wedding be?!”. It’s exciting but it can also can be a bit overwhelming especially if you JUST GOT ENGAGED! So can I offer some advice?

*First, tell people you’ll tell them all the detail when you have it…even if you’ve been thinking about the details already, don’t give them anything!

*Instead, bask in the glow of your engagement. As you begin your journey, start dreaming and envisioning your wedding day. Think about how you want to start your day, what feelings you want to experience, what you see when you think about seeing your partner at the altar, the first moment as MARRIED, and of course the reception vibes, then how you want to end your day.

*Write it all out or voice memo it. Discuss it with your fiancée and ask them to do the same. It’s like creating a wedding manifesto. When you don’t have a vision first, you’ll start to hear and consider everyone else’s thoughts and opinions for your day and it can get quite messy.

*Once you decide as a couple what you want, you can start telling people what you need. That way, they’ll start respecting the two of you as ONE 💕 and they’ll be less likely to try and live vicariously through you. This process will set a clear boundary for your families and friends and they’ll respect you for it. They won’t have a choice 😏

I just got my hands on 'The Book of Wedding Vows and Ceremonies' from American Marriage Ministries, and I just have to say…I'm beyond impressed!

Its packed with modern and fresh ceremony script ideas that are perfect for customizing every couple's experience 😍 My first wedding of the season will be such an emotional one (I can already tell 🥰) and I know I’ll need some help to transition through the script cause there will be tears 😭 This book has everything from traditional vibes to completely out of the box ideas to choose from. Now…For me, I do not do the copy paste thing when it comes to wedding scripts but it never hurts to get some creative ideas from books like these!
