Dallas Resident, Dal Sanders has been awarded the exclusive rights to teach the Discover Magic educational program in the

DFW area. You can learn more at www.DallasMagicAcademy.com. This national program is specially designed to teach key life skills to 8-12 year olds through the process of learning to perform magic. The course was created by internationally-known, award winning, magician and educator Michael Ammar, and his creative team after nearly twenty years of research. Studies have shown that the art of magic helps students build key life skills like self-discipline, self-confidence and interpersonal abilities. In fact, scientists frequently study magicians’ techniques to gain new insight into how the human mind works. The Discover Magic course is an educational program specifically designed to teach Respect, Creativity, Confidence and preparedness among other things. In fact, it’s best described as a life skills course camouflaged to look like magic lessons. Kids become so engrossed and entertained in learning the magic tricks that they don’t realize they’re acquiring skills whose benefits they’ll reap for a lifetime. Indeed, many opportunities for performing magic tricks arise later in adult life, whether as an ice breaker for businessmen or a doctor who uses magic tricks to put their young patients at ease.

“We’re proud to award Dal the exclusive rights to operate the Discover Magic program in North Texas,” said magician Michael Ammar, co-founder of Discover Magic. “Our program has been proven to teach essential life skills like creativity, confidence, planning and practice that last a lifetime. Studies have consistently shown that kids who learn magic grow up to be adults who are more analytical and discerning, develop keen empathic abilities and social skills.”

Every Discover Magic class features custom created props, one of the Traits of a True Magician, Top Secret file folders for every child and even special bonus material the kids can unlock online with a secret code after each class. The tricks taught are specially designed to encourage and reinforce the life skill being focused on during that lesson. Dal Sanders has been studying and performing the art of magic as a full time professional for over thirty years and has performed across the United States and overseas in China, Portugal, The United Kingdom, Mexico and Brazil. He has headlined his own illusion shows and shared the stage with many top acts including The Beach Boys, The Dixie Chicks, Kenny Rogers, Gladys Knight and more. Dal is a Past President of The Society of American Magicians, the oldest and most prestigious magic organization in the world. The organization also includes Harry Houdini, Howard Thurston and others as Past National Presidents. He has been awarded the title of M.I.M.C. from The Magic Circle in London and Order of Willard for T.A.O.M. Dal is also a member of The International Brotherhood of Magicians, a member of The Academy of Magical Arts (The Magic Castle) and is a Charter Member of KIDabra International. He is also well known for his educational school shows on a number of subjects including Reading, Character Building, Leadership, Self Esteem, Science, Drug Prevention, Ecology and Being a Good Friend...Not a Bully. In fact, there are many entertainers worldwide who regularly perform Dal Sanders’ routines in their own educational shows. Dal Sanders along with his wife Cinde will the hosts of the new nationally franchised television show KARTOON CIRCUS which will debut in the fall. Dal has also performed on international television as a feature entertainer on several Mrs. International Beauty Pageants, television commercials and was recently featured on a Comedy Central Special. Dal will be also be featured in the upcoming feature comedy film Hidden in the Heart of Texas. Dal has taught magic to children for over 30 years and is delighted to join the Discover Magic Team. “In all the years I have taught magic to kids, I have never seen a program that combines the teaching of the tricks with the development of positive life skills,” Sanders said. “It is as if the developers of this program got into my head and combined the positive messages I share in my educational school shows with a magic based curriculum.”

Michael Ammar has been called “One of the World’s Most Influential Magicians” by Magic Magazine. He has received six awards from the Academy of Magical Arts (Oscars of the magic world) and an F.I.S.M. Gold Medal (the Olympics of the magic world). A veteran performer, his resume includes appearances on Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show” and the “Merv Griffin Show” as well as the David Letterman Show, CNN, the Travel Channel and has performed live in venues as varied as the Vatican and George W. Bush’s inaugural banquet. Michael has produced over 40 instructional DVDs and his bestselling book is now in its 21st printing.

As many of you know, Cinde and I have been teaching magic to kids through The Dallas Magic Academy. Over the years, I have had many people say that they wish we could put together a class for adults so they could amaze their grand kids. How many of you would like to take a class like this? The magic would incorporate everyday objects like cards, coins, toothpicks, straws or even a coffee mug. Would you like for me to put together The Amazing Grand Pa Workshop? (Of course we would be open to Moms, Dads, Grandmas and even Aunts & Uncles too).

It hhas now been 10 years since Eric Hogue and I, worked with Representative Pete Sessions and his staff to have magic recognized as an art. This process took almost 2 years of meetings with Representative Sessions and his staff to create this simple document that now resides in the Library of Congress.

Recognition was the first step towards having the United States Government understand that magic is as much of an art as painting, sculpture, music, theater or film making. Even mimes are considered artists.

Traditionally, the second step would be passing a resolution in the House of Representatives, having that resolution ratified by the Senate and then finally signed by the President. This could help magicians protect their intellectual property and it would help magicians to obtain grants for artistic endeavors.

Unfortunately, that process is stalled, partly because of a change in the House Rules and partly because of the division in Washington.

We can still use the Recognition Document of 2014 to try to convince grant writers to consider magic as an art (and in fact, many people have successfully done that).
