โœจ๐Ÿ”ญ Celebrate the wonders of and the for โ€™s most exciting โœจ on Friday, January 26. ๐Ÿคฉ Join us for the MOAS Night Sky Festival + Embry-Riddle Observatories Open House events held at both locations.

๐Ÿ“ MOAS [7:00 - 10:00PM] - Stop by MOAS for our Night Sky Festival as we peer through a wide variety of telescopes set up outside on the front entrance courtyard. The winter sky is in full view as we observe the nearly full Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, the Pleiades, the Orion Nebula, and much more.

Throughout the evening, we will be performing live outdoor sky tours with green laser pointers, presenting astronomy programs in the Lohman Planetarium, and conducting hands-on activities around the Museum. ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ MOAS Location: 352 S Nova Rd, Daytona Beach, FL 32114 - Front Entrance Courtyard. Parking is limited. Planetarium shows have limited seating and are first-come, first-served.๐ŸŒŸ The outdoor portion is free to the public and is weather permitting.

! Here are a few Highlights from 2023 for MOAS:

โญ๏ธ Thanks to the generous support from Lowell and Nancy Lohman, the Lohman Planetarium upgraded to a new Digistar system.

โญ๏ธ MOAS received Winner of the 2023 Visitors' Choice Awards for Best Museum & Galleries.

โญ๏ธ ANOTHER SOLD OUT GALA! In 2022 we raised $67,873. In 2023 we raised $245,775 towards general operating costs with Passport to the Universe Fundraiser, which was inspired by Unfolding the Universe.

โญ๏ธ Since January we have seen nearly 6,000 students from 5th and 8th grade classes throughout all of Volusia County. The Lohman Field Study Program is now funded until the 2027-2028 school year.

โญ๏ธ In 2023 our Volunteers have donated a total of 2,534 hours. According to Pointsoflight.org, at a rate of $31.80 per hour, for 2023 our volunteers have contributed $80,581 in valued time and services.

โญ๏ธ On National Philanthropy Day, November 15, Guild President Diane Rogers was recognized by AFP FL, Volusia/Flagler Chapter as the Philanthropist of the Year.

โญ๏ธ Nearly 20 science nights this year attracting 4,000 students and their parents

โญ๏ธ Unfolding the Universe attracted more than - 26,000 members and general admission guests through its five-month exhibition. The Museum witnessed an impressive 1,174 new and renewing members, several sold out lunch and learns, 2 sold out live Webb shows in the Lohman planetarium, 9 talk and walks with the curator that averaged 60 attendees per event, and 1 sold out webb themed black light paint night.

โญ๏ธ The Museum received funding support from the following donors: The Simpkins Family Foundation - Unfolding the Universe Exhibit, VyStar - World War II Exhibit, Lowell and Nancy Lohman - Planetarium 2.0, and The Ference Fund - Equipment and Vehicle Support.

In a recent visit through the Exhibit: World War II: Stories from the American Experience - Patricia Dudiak and her husband Dave, Veteran, embraced in a reenactment of the famous V-J Day Kiss ๐Ÿ’‹ in Time Square from August 14, 1945.

โ€œIt was wonderful how many local soldiers were represented in this exhibit. Ormond Beach, Orange City, Orlando, etc. I highly encourage you to go experience this exhibit for yourself while it is still there. It ends on January 21, 2024.โ€ - Patricia Dudiak.
