It's National Ice Cream Day, yay! We thought we'd celebrate by sharing a few fun facts about ice cream with you. Thomas Jefferson is credited as the first American to write down an ice cream recipe (it was vanilla). Chocolate ice cream was invented before vanilla, as vanilla was rare and exotic in the late 1700’s.

Ice cream in America in the 1700’s was rare and enjoyed by the elite. According to records, in the summer of 1790, George Washington spent approximately $200 on ice cream. Dolley Madison served ice cream at her husband’s inaugural ball.

Americans consume with an average of 5.5 gallons per person per year. That’s 44 pints! It takes approximately 50 licks to finish one scoop of ice cream. According to NASA, ice cream is one of the three foods astronauts miss the most when they go on space missions. The other two? Pizza and soda.

We had so much fun at our pop-up with Moon Raccoon Baking Co in March, we are excited to announce we will be holding another pop-up with them this weekend and you will not want to miss this one. The Inventing Room x Moon Raccoon Baking Company Pop-Up Shop will be held this Sunday, April 14th, from 9am - 11am at The Inventing Room Dessert Shop.

ONE DAY ONLY - no reservations, walk-in service only. Service will be first come, first served, so you better stop by early! Join us and support two local, small businesses.

Have you ever caught us swooning over Moon Raccoon Baking Company's pastries on social media? Guilty as charged! If your tastebuds haven't experienced this celestial gastronomical journey yet, trust us, they're in for a treat that's out of this world!

We will be mixing up magical and bubbling liquid nitrogen ice cream drinks to order, such as Bananas Foster Creme Brûlée Milkshakes, Frozen Mochas with Exploding Whipped Cream, and Nitro Frozen Hot Chocolates with Freeze-Dried Marshmallows, and we will also have hot drinks and "not drinks" to complement Moon Raccoon's scrumptious pastries. It's National Chocolate Mousse day, yay! Here's a couple of fun facts about chocolate mousse for you to celebrate the day. Chocolate mousse, as well as being delicious, also has a fascinating history. It was first described as "mayonnaise de chocolat" - and, more interesting, was invented by the French post-Impressionist painter Henri Toulouse-Lautrec in the late 19th century.

The word “mousse” is a French word that means foam, so Mousse au Chocolat means chocolate foam. Thankfully the name that Toulouse Lautrec first gave it, ‘mayonnaise de chocolat’, has changed.

It's National Pie Day & we are thinking about our apple pie donut with brown butter pie crumbs, house made butterscotch & exploding whipped cream. Here are a few fun facts to share in celebration of pie - Pies can be loosely traced back to ancient Egyptians during the Neolithic Period or New Stone Age. The bakers incorporated nuts, honey, and fruit in the bread dough.

The early pies were predominately meat pies. Pyes (pies) originally appeared in England as early as the twelfth century. The crust of the pie was referred to as “coffyn”. There was actually more crust than filling. Often, these pies were made using fowl, and the legs were left to hang over the side of the dish and used as handles.

The wealthy English were known for their “Surprise Pies” in which live creatures would pop out when the pie was cut open.

Pumpkin pie was first introduced to the holiday table at the pilgrim’s second Thanksgiving in 1623. At one time, it was against the law to serve ice cream on cherry pie in Kansas.
