The Catskill Mtn feis will be open in the next day or two.. I want to encourage early entries so I’ve discounted the entry fees until 7/4. Also, the first 50 paid entries will be put into a drawing to get their full entry fee (less family fee) reimbursed. The first 100 entries will have the same drawing and it will include the first 50 entries..and so on for every 50 entries…the earlier you enter, the more chances you have to win… but you can only win once☺️… I’ll keep the drawings going until 7/17… my birthday ☘️

Hi feis friends… please save the date! We are very close to syllabus approval for Catskill Mtn Feis on August 3rd at the Beautiful Blackthorne resort. We have our tents donated by my friends at the Blackthorne, stages are in storage, trophies will need to be ordered but we are definitely going forward with the feis. I’m certain we’ll have a couple of fun competitions to honor Michael… and, of course, the pub party Saturday night☘️🥰❤️

One more sleep until the “big dance”, our annual Spring Fling fundraiser for the Farrell School of Irish Dance. Our Moms and students have been super busy and have gathered almost 100 raffle prizes!!! 100!!! There is truly something for everyone.
I also have a few lucky numbers left for our lottery ticket raffle. The chances are $20 each and the prize is a book of 50 $20 scratch off lottery tickets.

It’s almost February but I’ve got some great news and I can’t wait to share. Catskill Mtn feis will be taking place on August 3rd on the grounds of the Blackthorne Resort.
Special thanks to the owners of the Blackthorne, Dale Handel, Roy Handel and Patty Handel, who have generously donated our tents this year!! As you recall, last year our entries were too low two weeks prior to the feis and I had to cancel our tent order and ultimately our feis. The donation of the tents by the Blackthorne is a $7000 gift and I just can’t thank them enough for all their help and their continued support. Once the feis is open on Feisweb, please enter early so we can plan accordingly.
Like Rudy, I’m jumping for joy (in my mind😂) ☘️🐶🥰

Slight change in the “Just for fun” reel party on Saturday night.. sign-ups start at 6:30pm and competition starts at 7pm…The dance competition rules are there are no rules.. you can perform as solo or group… soft or hard shoe reel.. use our music or bring your own… no solo costumes, shirts and t’s are fine or get creative.
After the dance competition, stay and enjoy Sheridan Ruitin

Hi Catskill feis friends, I just finished issuing the last of the refunds.., some folks have already gotten their funds back and it seems to take 2-5 business days… I refunded from oldest to newest entries.
If you haven’t received your refund by Friday, pm me and I’ll check on it.
I apologize for any delay and inconvenience. We’d still love to see you at the East Durham feis on 8/26

Due to circumstances waaay out of my control, the Catskill Mtn feis is cancelled. All entry money will be refunded.
At this point, two weeks prior to the feis, we don’t have enough entry money to pay for tents and trophies. I was hopeful this year (I’m always hopeful) because there weren’t that many feiseanna in July we thought we would have a better entry, but sadly, it’s not the case.
Also sadly, unless the feis world changes, we won’t be running again next year. I’ll still submit my application and hope for the best, but I just can’t spend my summer worrying about raising money for a feis.
Lesson learned, I had a thought that we should open the feis without accepting payment to make sure we would have enough entries to run…. I should have listened to the little voice in my head🥰
I’m sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you and I’ll make sure all money is refunded. I’m sad, and very sorry😔☘️

I’m all the excitement of getting the feis open for entries, I neglected to post the syllabus. This is not in printable form but if you email me at [email protected] (yes, AOL… don’t judge😂) I’ll send you the pdf … it has to be an email not a Fb message.
The date is 8/5/23 and the start time is 10am. Rooms are available at the host venue, The Blackthorne resort… also Gavin’s Country inn, the Shamrock house and McGraths.
Of course we’ll be doing our “Just for Fun” reel competition in the pub at the Blackthorne on Saturday night… this event is hosted by the Blackthorne and the prizes are pretty awesome☘️🥰
I’m going to ask a favor, if you are considering coming to our feis, please please please enter early… then we’ll have enough time to order enough trophies. If you are waiting to enter to see if who else is entering, or to see if they’ll be enough entries “to count”…. There are probably 4-5 people doing the same thing. Enter and don’t pay right away if you want to wait. Running a feis is harder than you think, even more difficult if everyone enters the last week.. trophies have to be ordered, stages have to be built and additional adjudicators may have to be hired. In “ the old days” we would just order hundreds of extra trophies for “just in case” but now the entries are lower and we can’t tie up those excess funds. So enter early pretty please☘️🥰☘️

Yes, it was hot… but it didn’t rain☘️
Yes, we ran out of trophies… because we had so many winners☘️
Yes, we had a couple of stage mishaps… but our amazing team of stage building feis dads had the problems solved in minutes☘️🥰

We started at 10 and ended at 5 and I still don’t know when lunch was, or how long it was, or when novice started but I do know that children (and adults) danced, trophies were won… memories were made... memories that these dancers will tell their children…and maybe their grandchildren … all about the time they went to a feis in the Catskill mountains… and it was hot so they jumped in the pool… or had fun in the bouncy house… or had the biggest ball of cotton candy ever and hung with their friends in the pub.. dancing… sitting by the fire… having fun☘️
As always, there are so many people to thank.. Thank you to our feis committee .. we are a small but mighty group with a ”can do” spirit☘️🥰
Our stage workers, some have never been to a feis but were still willing to work.. some from other dance schools but wanted to help us☘️
Thank you to the owners and staff at the Blackthorne resort who always roll out the red carpet for us and our guests🥰☘️
Thank you to all of our adjudicators who go above and beyond to help make our competitions run smoothly and quickly.
Thank you to all of our musicians, your craft and talent is nothing short of amazing… you play for every dancer with the same enthusiasm from the first dancer at 10:00 to the final dance of the day☘️
Thank you to Erin Hickey Greenwood who belted out those anthems with less than 5 minutes notice. You are officially on notice for next year☘️
Thank you to all the dancers and their parents for coming to our feis, buying t-shirts, entering our raffles… I know some of you were “first timers” I hope we didn’t scare you off… thank you to our loyal victims… uummm, I’m mean guests.. we love your loyalty and we treasure your trust in us.. ☘️☘️
We often consider our feis “just a feis” but it’s so much more than that… do you know we had a dancer from Mexico? Many Canadian dancers? Dancers from many states? I asked Ryan Broesler if he ever danced in the Catskills when he was competing… he had the biggest smile on his face when he said yes. .. he remembered it fondly.

This is an outdoor feis so please bring chairs and, if you’d like, pop up tents.
Pack your bathing suits because the pool will be open… the Tiki bar will be open too. Food is available for purchase from the Blackthorne.
The feis starts at 10:00 with figures first.

A word, and I’ll try not to sound disappointed. This is our 15th feis and for the first 14 years, we’ve run a “Luck of the Draw” four hand figure dance as a free, fun dance competition. It was completely our idea and no other feis has done it. Normally, you would enter the competition and numbers would be drawn to form the teams… all from different schools, ages, and ability levels. Shorts were worn and everyone got a free tshirt. In years past, we would have between 40-60 dancers enter and always had a waiting list….This year, because entries are low and our expenses have skyrocketed, we asked for a $10 entry fee… even if only to cover the free tshirt… we got 7 entries… 6 from our own school… this is not what I expected when I ordered t-shirts😬😔
