Major or Minor in Dance at Northwestern University Guest artists lead master classes in a variety of forms and styles.

As an undergraduate in dance, you’ll study composition and choreography in depth as you are challenged to write, research, and analyze the field of dance. At the same time, you’ll continue to develop your dance skills with professional training and performance opportunities. The foundations of our dance program are contemporary modern dance, which includes the vibrant Jump Rhythm Jazz style, along

with ballet and tap. You’ll examine the body in motion, explore collaborations in dance and music, and improvise dance as you develop your own vocabulary for composition and choreography. Our faculty include award-winning professional dancers, choreographers and renowned researchers and scholars of dance history, theory and education. The dance and liberal arts curriculum is designed to foster your intellectual, artistic and professional growth and prepare you to pursue career opportunities in performance, dance writing, education, choreography, dance therapy and administration.

Danceworks 2016

Danceworks 2016 February 26 – March 6, 2016 Josephine Louis Theater | 20 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston https://www.communication.northwestern.edu/wirtz/danceworks_2016 NU Dance Program Director Joel Valentín-Martínez leads the Artistic Direction of this year’s annual dance showcase featuring exciting and innovative choreography by Tony and Olivier Award-winner Garth Fagan, 2015 Guggenheim Fellow Rosy Simas, Hedwig Dances Artistic Associate Maray Gutiérrez, NU Dance faculty member Jeff Hancock, and Joel Valentín-Martínez. Using the foundations of contemporary modern dance, this evening will showcase a broad range of choreographic styles and voices across the diverse and multi-cultural spectrum of many dance styles and techniques, creating an exhilarating and entertaining evening of performances.
