The Colorado State University Organ Studio has a distinguished history. Robert Cavarra built a legacy of excellence in organ study that has left an indelible mark on the American organ scene. Our 1968 Casavant tracker, built by Lawrence Phelps, was a landmark instrument in the tracker revival, and continues to make beautiful music in its new location in the CSU University Center for the Arts. (CSU

preserves the legacy of Lawrence Phelps in a special archive in its library.) Dr. Joel Bacon is currently the Stewart and Sheron Golden Chair of Organ and Liturgical Studies at CSU, the first endowed chair in the College of Liberal Arts. In combining organ study with the study of church music, this program is preparing a new generation of musicians for careers as professional organists. Fort Collins boasts many other fine organs, including Lawrence Phelps's op. 1 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, and one of the few Marcussen organs in America, found at First United Methodist Church.
