The Davenport, as an event venue, will be closing on January 7th, 2024.
After 20 years, my wife, Lindsay and I have decided to sell our building in downtown Greer, which includes our event venue, The Davenport. We have loved the downtown life, and both of our boys have only known Trade St as their front yard🙂. The friendships with other business owners in downtown have made for many enjoyable experiences that we will forever be grateful for and remember fondly. The 2000+ events that our guests allowed us to host at The Davenport have been an honor, and we are blessed to have been embraced by the Greer community for so many years.
Now let's answer a few questions:
Q: What about 2023 events between now and then?
A: Everything will remain the same for all events through the end of the year. Nothing has changed. Same contacts, same owners, same everything. If you would like to host an event at The Davenport in 2023 and you see the date open on our calendar, please contact us. We would love to create as many memories as possible as we finish 2023!
Q: What about events booked in 2024?
A: Everyone has been contacted and arrangements have been made to transfer those events to another venue close by or provide a refund. If you were hoping to host your event at The Davenport in 2024 or beyond, we recommend still bringing your event to downtown Greer. Q: Who bought the building and what are they planning?
A: We are excited about the new owners and trust that they will bring positive changes and continue to invest in and promote our amazing downtown. Although we can't say anything specific about their plans at this time, we know it will be a great addition to the growth of downtown Greer.
Q: Why did you sell? Are you leaving Greer?
A: We are definitely not leaving Greer. In fact, we will still own our rental company, Greer Event Rentals, that will continue to be based out of downtown Greer and serve our community.
We were not looking to sell either, but the right offer from the right people at the right time came along, and we took the opportunity to achieve some family goals we have been working towards for a while. We moved to Greer in 2003 and have built a wonderful life here. We love the community, our kids love Greer Rec sports, and we have many friends here. Greer is home! We are currently looking for our next home, which will be a little more traditional than our current one. We're thinking of something with a yard you can throw a ball in, since throwing football across Trade St with your 2 little boys is frowned upon.
Q: Are you getting out of the event business?
A: We are only exiting the venue business (for now ;-), but our other business, Greer Event Rentals has had 7 strong years, and each year keeps getting better! Let us know if you need a tent, bounce house, slide, tables, chairs or whatever...we probably have it.
To wrap up, Senator Verne Smith often said "Greer is the center of the universe", and we didn't have first hand understanding of what that meant when we first moved here, but we quickly learned. Greer is a special place. We are so thankful to have lived and hosted so many events in the center of that center for 20 years. We will enjoy looking back on those 20 years as we now move forward to the next chapter of our family’s journey in Greer.
