We confirmed that KPFT’s General Manager did resign– 2 weeks ago. Again, no emails, no information, & no updates from the GM or the Board.

We hope the new GM to fosters a positive environment by inviting collaborative effort, transparency, & communication.

We take no joy in this; in fact, some accountability is lost and explanations have not been given. The fight is not about one person; it’s a structure.

You saw the chart for Houston’s demographics. The HTX is minority majority. This chart shows the distribution of all hours (24/7) on
90.1 FM KPFT Houston before any changes. As you can see, Houston’s Community Radio didn’t really reflect the community even then.

Yet, BIPOC programmers, hosts, & the community appreciated KPFT as our outlet, as defined by Pacifica Radio Network's Mission Statement. We provided quality content for so many of our communities… and then they erased our voices.

A chart showing Houston's Demographic Representation is below. Why is this important?

Well, if your slogan is "Houston's Community Radio", shouldn't 90.1 FM KPFT Houston reflect that? Shouldn't a station, who's stated Mission Statement, along with Pacifica Radio Network's Mission Statement, states it's for the people represent the people?

KPFT 90.1 FM was already underrepresenting Houston's BIPOC community. Recent programming changes pushed KPFT further from its mission of representing Houston.
