I was handed a cute gift bag by my Sunday bride Sharmaine as I was packing up, not knowing this beautiful message was waiting for me.

Y’all I cried. I really did.

I don’t think y’all understand how deeply I love what I do. I’m so so so so THANKFUL and GRATEFUL for each and EVERY client & bride that has ever inquired and may have never booked, who may have me on their Pinterest board and when they do get engaged they secure my services. The ones who find me on google and never meet me but trust me enough to secure me as their bridal makeup artist. I mean I can go on and on. But I’m so happy and thankful for you.

Without the continued support & genuine love, I would not be the artist I am today.

Moka Beauté | Mocha Beauty

Almost three years ago I changed my business from to because I knew I wanted to offer additional services. While searching for a new name, I dug into my WHO & WHY?

Who am I servicing? Why are doing this?

My who - women of color mainly black women.

My why - because WOC unfortunately have the fear of an artist not matching their skin tone correctly.

Well one day, my literal , overthinking self, thought about all the WOC foundations I normally use. And was like, if mixed them all together it be a mocha shade 🥺 👩🏻👩🏽👩🏾👩🏿

Mocha Beauty.

Ahh but I had to French on y’all and Google translated Mocha Beauty to Moka Beauté.

Ha! You see what I did there.

Muse Ken’Nadi is that shade of dreamt of & the perfect reflection of my brand & business.

The only two skin prep items I’m using in this unusually brutal humid, hot weather Houston is experiencing.

This might be controversial but hear me out. Due to the weather conditions, less is better. Meaning I maybe omitting heavy products out of the prepping steps like, serums & oils.

Instead I’m opting into using the blurring balm more. It is acts as a moisturizer and primer and the Stop the sweat is great for keeping the sweat away.

When a client steps foot outside, the humidity will react accordingly and make the skin dewy if I’m using TOO much. So to keep that away, using less product and use more setting sprays, in between layers of the makeup, allowing it dry, and then continue the application.

Get yourself a wagon or something similar to tote your kit if you are doing on location services.

I understand stairs may prohibit this but let me tell you something if I gotta walk a good distance trust and believe I’m going to wheel my wagon to them stairs and walk my stuff up them with wagon in tow. It’s collapsible 🥳

I purchased mines from and it was only about $50.

J A M I L A 👰🏾‍♀️💍

This my the BEST example I have to add to my bridal portfolio of a natural look.

Let me give you a quick overview as to why Bridal previews are important.

Jamila came to for her bridal preview, the same day she was going to do her bridal portraits. Perfect. We went with a bridal glam look. Well…the look she THOUGHT she wanted after it was all said and done did not fit HER!

That’s cool. I want all my clients to feel comfortable with their makeup. Like I tell them it’s not my face it’s yours so LET ME KNOW!

She booked another appointment and she was very specific as to what she thought she wanted she wanted to omit and didn’t want to chance it the day off.

She didn’t want shadow, very wispy lashes, and no lipstick, just gloss & liner. She wanted minimal enhancements.

Say less.

In these situations I focus on underpainting and skin prep to get that “natural” finish.

I think I nailed it ☺️

Two brides in 24 hrs. Two different looks.

Geraldine wanted her makeup to be classic, soft, and feminine. She didn’t want lashes at first when we talked but I told her I had a special pair I have for anyone who is afraid of a lash. And I think this pair worked out perfectly.

She had several photo areas around the city so I provided her touch ups to keep her makeup fresh in every single frame.

Well y’all this wraps up 2022 bridal season until January 2nd 😉🤣 But after that I won’t be working weddings til March. A two month break will be needed to recoup for the busy 2023 season.

February 29, 2020 was my last in person group class I hosted.
⠀
I was skeptical on relaunching my Makeup Class for Everyday Women in 2022 because I was unsure about the spread of COVID-19.
⠀
I told myself in 2022, I’m going to take a safe leap of faith and relaunch my group class in January.
⠀
My March 12th class sold out two weeks for the event date.
⠀
I set up my April 16th class and guess what….one single seat remains.
⠀
Y’all. I’m shook. 😲
⠀
My first class this year was amazing. An amazing group of women came. We laughed. We learned. We had fun!
⠀
🥰Shoutout to my new makeup sister from Baton Rouge for making that drive to help me. Sis reached out last year to come assist me in any capacity and I made sure I made space for her to get the experience!✨

✨ Professional Business Headshots + Makeup is a new service that I offer in my studio ✨

Last year I had a lot of clients come to me for makeup services and then head to their photoshoot for headshots. I realized I had a little knowledge of that service but didn’t actively pursue it until now.

I began to take classes, watch YouTube videos and read articles on it and practiced more and more to get comfortable.
