For days now, I have sat frozen, staring at the horrible images of beautiful human beings, blasted and broken, all with hopes, dreams, and desires for a future that will never be realized. I grieve for these lives lost, and for the continued hatred that makes it possible to dehumanize one group of people toward the other and justify the acts of violence we are witnessing.
Someone wrote to me and asked, “Seane, as a yogi and a Jew, how do you reconcile this? On which side does your heart rest?”
On which side does my heart rest?
My heart will never rest until there is peace, justice, safety, equality, access to resources, dignity, respect, and love for ALL innocent people who want to live free.
My heart sides with the early morning Jewish dancers celebrating the rising sun as Hamas paragliding terrorists float in the sky preparing for murder.
My heart sides with the countless innocent Palestinian citizens who exist under Hamas and Israeli rule and continue to live in pain, powerlessness, suffering, oppression, and abuse.
My heart sides with the Jewish families praying for the safety of their kidnapped friends and family and grieving their beloveds who were mercilessly slaughtered.
My heart sides with the Palestinian mothers who cover their babies with their bodies to protect them from the bombing, who are thrust into darkness and without food, water, or supplies, facing a continued catastrophic humanitarian crisis that is not of their choosing.
My heart sides with the Jewish people suffering from the endless anti-semitism that continues to threaten their very existence. My very existence.
My heart sides with the Palestinian people who have absolutely no where to go.
So I hold in my broken heart, my Jewish brothers and sisters. I’m so sorry. I hold in my broken heart my Palestinian cousins. I’m so sorry. None of this is right.
I denounce terrorism and political supremacy in all forms and my heart will always side with those who want peace.
May God bless and protect the innocent and hold accountable those who put power, dominance, and terror over love, compassion, and unity.
Shalom. Salam. Shanti. Peace. 🙏🏼
