On December 18, a celebration will be held in honor of Carlton "Carly" Barrett, the legendary drummer for Bob Marley and The Wailers. The event, which will take place in downtown Miami, will feature performances by Carly's nephew, Aston Barrett Jr., and Tyrone Downie Jr. and Andrew Downie, the sons of Wailers keyboardist Tyrone Downie, who passed away in November. The celebration is being organized by Gladstone "Gilly Ras" Gilbert, Bob Marley's traveling chef, who said, "The reason why I am keeping this gig is to show respect and honor to not just Carly, but some of the other great musicians that help paved the way for this powerful, conscious, rootical, mystical, peace and love music outa 'Jamup' we call Reggae that the whole world love." The Barrett family will be presented with a plaque in "love and remembrance" of Carly's contribution to the genre. The event will take place on the day after what would have been Carly's 72nd birthday.
