*10 more donors needed for blood drive on Wednesday *

Brookside friends, HJ‘s Youth & Community Center provides a super convenient opportunity for neighbors to donate blood. They host a Community Blood Center blood drive every couple of months in their beautiful facility, which also provides the easiest parking in Brookside. Some donors walk along the Trolley Trail to come donate.

CBC of Kansas City has served the greater KC area for over 60 years. Whose lives have been impacted by the kindness of those many donors? People battling cancer, patients undergoing cardiac surgeries, burn or trauma victims, organ and bone marrow transplant recipients, and people with bleeding disorders, premmie babies, and many more. And while 1 out of 3 people will need blood in their lifetime, only 3% of the population donate. 😳 So, please drop by to see if you’re eligible to donate, or encourage a friend or family member to donate if you are unable to donate, yourself. ❤️

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns, or to make an appointment for the blood drive tomorrow afternoon.

HJ's is hosting the next Community Blood Center blood drive on Wednesday, May 22nd. We'd love to find donors for several open appointment times. Let's do our best to help the available blood supply for our KC family, friends and community as we head into summer.

It is quick and simple to donate, and is vitally important to help those needing transfusions or blood products during surgeries or disease treatments (many cancer patients need blood). One in 3 of us need blood at some point in our lives, yet only 3% of the eligible population donate..😳 Be someone's hero and come along to see if you can donate on 5/22 👍

Folks, about every two months we have a super convenient opportunity to donate blood close to home and . HJs Youth and Community Center kindly hosts our hometown Community Blood Center for these regular collection events; such mobile drives are a vital part of fulfilling our regional blood needs.
Dave @ Bicycle Depot KC is supporting our efforts by encouraging local cyclists to donate. You’ll receive a voucher for a free water bottle for presenting to donate at our next blood drive on Friday afternoon.

Welcome to HJ’s!

Long-time Brookside and Waldo residents remember the Southtown YMCA on the lot across from St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. For decades, the Y was a community gathering spot, hosting Southwest High School parties, dance lessons, and summer afternoons at the pool. In 1990, Kansas City business leader and philanthropist John Latshaw donated the property to St. Andrew’s, and the old Y became HJ’s Youth and Community Center, named for Latshaw’s son. The facility served St. Andrew’s and the neighborhood for years, hosting Boy Scout Troop 16, the church’s youth ministry, and community events.

Now, our new HJ’s Youth and Community Center stands as a hub of blessing for St. Andrew’s and our Southtown neighborhoods – a gathering spot off the Trolley Track Trail for coffee and conversation, an event venue, the home of Troop 16 and other youth ministries, and a connecting point to build relationships between people and with God.

With a variety of spaces and a mission to connect with our neighborhoods in spiritual and secular ways, HJ’s is your gathering spot for:

  • Private parties and events
