A common misconception is that because our name has the word "Soul" in it, we only do southern/soul food. When actually, that is only one out of the MANY menus we take inspiration from and build on. Today, we lay to rest a massive piece of our hearts... my granddaddy. He was our biggest supporter, best teacher, and he gave unmatched encouragement. If you had to have a grandfather, he was the one to have.

Juneteenth is not a new holiday! It has just gotten a boost in recognition thanks to the movement. It has been celebrated for over 150 years as the day that signified and celebrated the last day of slavery for black people. It is such a shame that it is not celebrated like it should be. How most people don't know what it is, or was until recently (I found out just 8 years ago). Being black is not a fad or a trend, it's literally who I am! So I encourage a well deserve break, and the celebration of Freedom today. We will carry on the fight for justice tomorrow
