Cuckoo’s Mic

Jackie said to Jackson, we should start an open mic. Jackson said to Jackie, we absolutely should.

So they took all the things from other open mics they liked, and here we have it, a BK open mic that ISN’T in Williamsburg.

Cuckoo’s a new mic offering two alternating sign up lists. One for any act involving music (singer/songwriter, bands, dance, burlesque, musical comedy), and one for non music (spoken word, comedy, reading, magic, visual arts). Music acts get 2 songs or up to 8 minutes, and non musical acts get 6 minutes. (this is subject to change) We will not let you surpass your allotted time. If it’s a full night and you choose to take less than half of your set, you will be awarded a beer on us. Sign ups will run from 7:30 to 8:15. You can still sign up at the bottom of the list whenever you come. For January 2020, it will be free admission. It will be 21+ and a full bar for just us mic’ers. We ask that you order at this bar as opposed to the one you see upstairs, as they are two separate bars. There is food available. If you don’t get a chance to perform and you signed up BEFORE 8:15, your name will be grandfathered to the top of the set the FOLLOWING WEEK ONLY.

The last Wednesday of each month between 10-10:30 there will be a featured act chosen by Jackie & Jackson to perform an actual set at The Nest, so if we ask you to perform, please bring your friends and prepare to dazzle!

It is a full stage with mic set ups, a house acoustic guitar, and a house keyboard (full keys, sustain pedal, this isn’t some backyard party- though there IS a backyard!) WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO BRING YOUR OWN INSTRUMENTS. (except the keyboard; life’s hard enough)

There will be videography and sound recording made possible. If you want an audio or visual recording of your set for an additional cost, let us know before the start of your set.

Lastly, be kind! Bring your crazy, your art, your first time jitters. Show us your new years resolutions, the reason you came to NYC, that weird talent from high school, any of it, and all of it. No heckling the audience and no heckling the talent! If you want to talk s**t, there’s a stoop outside.

We are literally 90 paces (then again, I have long legs) from the Q/B/S Prospect Park stop and the B41, B48, and B16 busses.

It’s always good to be apart of something legendary at the very beginning, isn’t it?
